Looking for ideas for promiting LearnNavi.org at BayCon next month

Lu hasey.  I now have a stack of ribbons to hand out to anyone who can speak at least a little Na'vi at Baycon.   If anyone attends conventions that have a similar ribbon activity, let me know.  The plate is made so future orders can be made fairly easily with any available color combination.  If you order a few months in advance, you can group your order with other people and get a bulk discount.  Short order is still available of course, just more expensive.  PM me if you want to place an order and I'll get you in touch with the right people.

I don't know how common it is at other conventions, but a common practice at BayCon is for people to hand out badge ribbons.  First, a brief history and explanation.

These ribbons are typical horizontal badge ribbons sold from many places.  They typically have something printed on them, such as "Speaker", "Guest", "Staff" etc.  Then there is a piece of adhesive to stick it onto your convention badge.  It started innocently enough, with a lone ribbon to indicate what sort of member or staff they are.  Nice and practical, and a very common thing at conventions and trade shows.

But then someone had the bright idea to order up their own to hand out, outside of the normal convention registration.  Suddenly the idea exploded, and you never knew who had a stack of ribbons to give out.  And everyone had their own rules for who gets one.  Some you had to know the person or be part of an exclusive club.  Others you just had to ask for.  Sometimes you just had to ask a certain way.  Or you had to attend a certain event.  Or be at the right place at the right time.  A few examples from my past experience...  A ribbon that says "Red Shirt" (As in the Star Trek variety) handed out to people wearing a red shirt.  An ASL ribbon (Spelled out in finger spelling) handed out to anyone who knew at least a little ASL.  A "Tea Snob" ribbon handed out to people who attended a tea party.  A lolcat ribbon that you only got if you asked like it was a lolcat caption, "I can has ribbon?".

So...  I thought it would be a great idea to make a Na'vi ribbon for BayCon next month!  I'm thinking anyone who can say something in Na'vi can get one, which may involve teaching them to say it first.  In big letters, it would have something in Na'vi, then in small letters below that, www.learnnavi.org.

Now, I could just have it say "Kaltxì!" but that's just so basic.  So I thought I'd see if anyone wanted to brainstorm ideas.  A few things to keep in mind...

• It should be at least partly recognizable as Na'vi to anyone who has seen Avatar (Which will likely be a large percentage of the attendees)
• Nothing TOO long...  The ribbons are only 3.5 inches wide (Take a look at the pictures for an idea of how long it could reasonably be)
• Not TOO difficult to pronounce for someone who has not learned any Na'vi
• An interesting meaning - A lot of people collect ribbons just for the sake of collecting ribbons, if it can pique their interest, we may get some new members

So far the ideas I have in mind are...

Numeyu lì'fyayä leNa'vi	(Again recognizable because it has Na'vi in it)
Eywa ngahu	(Should be recognizable because of Eywa)
'Ivong Na'vi	(Recognizable and a nice message)
Nga ke ftasyem	(Cross-fandom FTW)
Ma luk, oe sempul ngeyä lu	(Cross-fandom FTW)
Oe lasyu Toruk Makto	(Recognizable enough)
New oe livu Neytiri Makto	(*ahem*)
Oeyä tokx alahe Na'viyä hapxì lu	(My personal favorite, fun and recognizable)

So...  Anyone else have some bright ideas?

Any word yet on Na`vi/Avatar themed events at Baycon yet?

Not really much formal programming, it's just going to be a BOF event - rather than a structured panel, just a room set aside for people to meet at a certain time.  Not sure exactly when yet.

Nice! This looks amazing. Too bad this isn't a thing they do at phoenix comicon, or we'd definitely use it. Also, one idea that we will be doing here is handing out CD's with some programs on there, the avatar podcast, and links to learnnavi.org. It'll contain stuff like a link to the dictionary, navi in a nutshell, Tree of Voices, etc etc. One more thing, remember those flyers me and kawazoe made for the Avatar movie release? Well you could print those out too and hand those out like a mofo to everyone.

By the way, anyone know of what it'll take to either get a bunch of shirts, or at least the design for the shirts, so we can sell them at the conventions? Like the shirts LN offers here.
