We may be drifting away from the topic a little. Is there by chance a Peyral-specific thread here (I know there is one for Ninat.)?

On-topc: I have nothing to add regarding the shawl for the moment  :P.

I'd say go for it. I can't seem to find a thread related to Peyral.

I've looked in ``General Discussion´´, ``The Movie´´ and ``Na'vi Customs And Culture´´. Haven't found anything.

Therefore i'm gonna start my own thread here: http://forum.learnnavi.org/general-avatar-discussion/  :)!

*Giving the thread a bit of life.*

There was said before somewhere in this thread that they made all clothes in the real world as well. They indeed did, and they also made this "shawl". However, this was far from what we see in the movie, this was just one piece of cloth. Well, they made quite a few in all diffrent kinds of cloth to see how diffrent textures would move when Mo'at does. So there is no real shawl with those "prints" on it, but there may be designs for the sizes.

I brought that up, nice to know a little more about it.

I Have some experience in making costumes and such for a lot of purposes. If I was to make this here is what I would use...

1. About 1 1/2 yards of white chiffon at least 33 inches wide.
2. White and glo-in-the dark puffy t-shirt paint. Avilable at craft stores in the US in the T shirt paiting supplies. The paint puffs as it dries giving texture. need a steady hand.
3. Fabric sizing such as liquid starch.
4. Fray Check
5. Screen shots to go by
6. An impervious surface that will not adhere to your project such as a glass top table, granite counter top or even old floor tiles

Prewash your cloth in the starch and lay flat to dry.

To make the leaf... using the screen shot cut out a pattern of a large leaf on some tissue paper. The leaf to me looks like an earth type lobed oak leaf of the kind that have acorns. Check for fit across your own shoulders.

Gently tape your paper pattern to the prepared chiffon and cut it out. Seal edges with some Fray Check to keep it from fraying. Place on your impervious surface and smooth wrinkles. Let dry.

Using the paints mix (either just white or glo-in-the dark or both) draw your LARGE veins first and let dry. Then add in your small veining detail. Let dry.

I think this will give you the desired effect.

I know it's been a long time no-one wrote here, but I don't know a better place for my post, so I'd like to show these pictures to you and ask for your opinion. I'm also in love with Mo'at's shawl... Since you're all experts (having seen the Film a hundred times), it's important to me to know what you think. So, it's not 100% ready yet, but (or because of it) I need help.
Do you think it resembles? Don't the thinner lines look too thin?

That looks so good!
Why not give it a light purple-ish glow in the dark spray? :P

This is VERY beautiful and creative.  From the sounds of the exhibit description, your shawl looks far more like Mo'at's shawl than the one on exhibit.  I am awed.

Was thinking that the shawl could have been made from the vanes of an ikran or toruk?  I found this on Avatar Wiki:

"Each large fore-wing has three primary vanes at its tip. These form like the wings of a dragonfly, by the extrusion of a resin into the veins of a flexible membrane, which unfurls, then cures in the sun into a rigid transparent vane. These vanes are replaced through molting. The vanes function similarly to the feather structures of Terran birds. "

The vanes could be collected before the resin is extruded so that they remain flexible.  And they could be sewn or glued together with the sticky sap of a plant.  On Rrta, we have the sap of the osage orange.  It is extremely sticky and contains latex.

Looks good so far, although i think it might be a bit big  ;)  :). IIRC Mo'at's shawl was smaller in comparison to her own body.

Do you think so?
... It used to be even bigger, but I stepped on it at the front and at the back too, so I cut it smaller. Maybe not smaller enough...  ;D

It might be a little too big, but it looks great!  You could cover the veins in glow-in-the-dark fabric paint if you didn't want to spray the whole thing.  Anyway, fabulous work, ma tsmuke!
