I hadn't noticed any of this before. Awesome work, ma Xelloss!
This sort of clothing, or at least the makings of it, are readily available in the American west. I didn't see what kind of leather you are using, but most of this would be made from deerskin, either Whitetail or Mule deer depending on where you are.

I have purchased the necessary leather to make a vest of 'thanator scales', but have yet to find the quality time needed to fabricate the vest.

Irayo ngar nang, ma 'eylan ;)

hay ! I know this, no time to create stuff  ;D
All my clothes are prototypes and i use (cheap) leather like (cow and pig)
The las vest is deer ;)
=> Now, i have more experience, so, i can use "expansive" leather  :D

Nuw stuff : travel pipe

Because i don't want to keep the pipe "naked" i created ornament with bead and porcupine pike
Pipe bag has dentalium ornament and had tree sick pices of leather inside to increase protection of the pipe ;)
the stick used to fill the pipe has dentalium too
the big bag contain a  smoking mixture without tobacco
Inside small bag there is red willow

You need about 20 minutes to smoke the full mixture inside the pipe
I understand why smoking time for Native is a "relax time"  :D
(this is not a cigaret which takes few minutes  ::) )

In Lakota culture, smoke is used to etablish communication with spirits and ancestors  :D

Hello ,, new to this thread , but I would like to gently touch on an issue some here may not have thought of,, I am of European cultural Ancestry so I by no means can claim native American blood,, I have a close friend who is recognized medicine men of the western Cherokee Nation (The Tsalagi)  he is in his late 70's age wise and runs a forum on paltalk on traditinal native culture and medicine ,, Native American peoples and Native peoples in general are very sensitive to "Cultural Appropriation" but not to Cultural appreciation or core "recognition"  so one must take care understand there are venues to learn about traditions like making traditinal clothing , understanding sacred ceremony , or ,building traditinal shelters (lodges) but one can not Cosplay or dress up like A Native American ..It would be seen in ones eyes as a stealing of ones cultural heritage or Identity
there are venues where one can learn about Traditinal life as well as build strong friendships and trust I was told this "The color of the skin is far less important then the "spirit" that moves it.. and in true circles I have found this to a strong truth .. I will Invite This elder into the forum if there is interest , He is aware of Avatars strong source refection's and it could make for some very constructive dialog.. I will avoid using his name until I talk to him on the subject ..  Dohiya All

"Cultural Appropriation"... this is THE debate when we start to create Native stuff...
(and this is a very good thing  :D )

So, in my opinion, the purpose is "why do you do this ?" ;)
And my answer : Because i love this ;)

Quote from: Allrock123but one can not Cosplay or dress up like A Native American ..It would be seen in ones eyes as a stealing of ones cultural heritage or Identity
I can not agree with this sentence  :(
Why a person can't create his clothes ?
Why a person can't practice cosplay inside a time of History he like ?
If i  translate this sentence, it say "Only Native People can wear Native clothes"
Must i justify my blood to be allowed to wear this or that clothes ?

Generally, this kind of discussion become sterile and i close it with :
Okay, you want that only Native American can create thípi and wear Native clothes ?
I was born "under X", that mean nobody know who are my parents and my ancestors...
So, maybe i can have Native blood too...
Let's think about my favorite sentence from Edmund Cooper : "The color of the skin is far less important then the "spirit" that moves it."

And this is the sentence you said... awesome  :D ;)
I totally agree

THIS is "Cultural Appropriation" and " stealing cultural heritage / Identity"
(I just hate this kind of creations...  >:( )

My purpose is reconstruction
That's why i spend lot... lot... loooooot of time in historical search before starting a creation ;)

One of my main source concerning clothes is the AWESOME facebook page of Native North American Indian - Old Photos

During a conversation with a friend i said to him
"Give me two years, i give you clothes for a whole tribe for next Live Roleplay"   :D

And because the Xel' is quite mad, he start to create a Lakota dress...
Yeah, the thing with loooot of beads  ;D

Because creating "only" loinclothes and leggingd is not fun...
(hmm... maybe beaded leggings  ;D )

Horsehair in the bottom of the dress come from a ranch in Corsica where we travelled with a friend during holidays  ;)
(the main purpose was to set up at the top of my thípi but this is more beautiful on the dress  :D )

Hew, and if you ask yourself about the lack of pictures of the back...
That's why i just finish the front...
(Yeah, an eternity and a half to bead it... i will laugh a lot when il will start the back  ;D )

Here is the front finished ;)

So... 8 beads for a vertical... multiply by X, number of vertical, multiply by Y, number of lines, we obtain....
An answer ?
Neytiri ?
Pxay ?, yes, good  :D

First, if i want to bead a dress, i need to create a... dress :D
(Leather com from my favourite store "Au Renard;) )

The next pictures are here to show you the insanity of the Xel'  ;D
You see this whole line ?
One buisness-day of work
A mad man i say, mad !  ;D

Courage, two lines done... finish is near  ;D

Hay, interesting now... picture ;)

yeah, we start to see something  :D

Okay, simple pattern... i have not lot of points in my Bead Skill  ;D

So... boring part again... veeery long part of blue lines  8)

The whole dress become heavy...
A bead is light, but lot of...
So, i ned to balance the weight
Let's go on the back ;)

Now, balance is good...
Front again

And what about white ? :D

Okay, left side is done  8)

Hey, i see the finish !!

Now, you can go on the top of the topic  ;D
