If you can't find anything "official" I recommend an army surplus store - they have all kinds of cool packs that look legit.

Awesome cosplay! Is nice to see variation :) So far looks great!

Well, I suppose it's time for an update on my costume progress.  Yesterday I got the chance to buy up some makeup for my face and arms!  Just like I heard from others I got white, primary blue, and black to mix together to get the right colours.  I actually bought two different kinds of makeup;  I bought cream for my hands and arms, and grease makeup for my face.  I've been told that although the creams are easier to apply, the grease makeups give you greater detail, so I guess I'll have to experiment with that

I was also delighted to find glow in the dark cream makeup to create the bio-luminescent features!  Just have to gather up all my reference shots of Norm to get them in the right places and in the right configuration!

I still need to get materials for the neural queue and the tail.  I guess NOW would be the last chance to start on it with any hope of finishing before Saturday/Sunday!

Wish me luck!

WOO!  Good luck.  And don't forget pictures otherwise we'll be forced to eat you ;)

Would love to get a copy of that hat (without the braille) and an RDA backpack...
Please tell me if you see mistakes in a Na'vi post of mine. It's the only way I'll learn. :P

Heh, well the hat isn't anything special.  In the movie the hat is a forest green/khaki two toned hat, but since I couldn't find a hat like that I used a simple olive green hat.

I promise to post pictures tomorrow!

I got a preview on skype-cam, looked super sweet. PICS PLZ!  :D

Things to note:  First is that I have the wrong shape nose.  I tried scarwax but found it was too hard to shape with and I gave up on giving myself a proper nose.  Serves me right for buying the cheap stuff.
Second is that I don't have ears.  See explanation above.
I liked how my stripes came out in this iteration no matter how thick they are.  As for the base coat, I was dumb and didn't buy makeup wedges to give myself an even coat.

I'll post more pictures as I find them

Looks cool anyway!   :) Must get myself a hat...

I love it!  It seems like everything I have to say to help you you already know ;)

Eaite Randjam

Yeah...  Being a theater rat helps with being able to do my own makeup, then look at it objectively.  This was a great learning experience and I can't wait for my next opportunity to become blue!

(I might even try some prosthetics if I have the money.  I just wish that there were a prosthetic that only covers the nose.)

ToktorGrace

Looks great! Can't wait to see more pics! :D How did other people on Halloween like it?

A tip I used my first try at cosplaying an Avatar without a nose prosthetic was shading around the nose to make it look like I had a cat's nose/Na'vi nose :) There's a tutorial on youtube that I looked at and found to be super helpful if you are interested!

Teehee, you make a cute avatar :D

I think Truro's shading tip might be a good idea, but great job ;D

I had a lot of fun just wandering around town in full costume.  People would walk near me and do double-takes and sometimes go "Whoa, cool" or "Wow, it's an avatar"

One asked me "How'd you get out of my TV?"

Aww  :) Thanks for the complement.

And I think I might have seen the tutorial you're talking about... a loooooooooooong time ago, but I had forgotten it.  Can you provide a link?

Tsufätu Ayioangä

I'm gonna follow your awesome lead and make my own female version, not necissarilly of Norm but just a female scientist avatar as well as my native Na'vi costume :D

I saw this tutorial before!  I can tell this guy knows his stuff.  I'm guessing... he works in drama/theater.

I'm also trying to make a Norm's cap for myself. I bought two caps of different colours, and sewed them together... (Next step is cutting out for the ears, then come the dots...)
