I am a jeweler myself, and I must ask: what materials and techniques did you employ to create this piece?

The gems, are custom shaped/drilled jade stones. (which if I am correct. was the gemstone that Neytiri's necklace was made from. Although the location that jade for that color .. I'll have to look in my gem logs.)
though I will be getting custom shaped/drilled peridot.
Ill write up a short instruction sheet for the style pattern I used. for the rest of the necklace.(I made the cord that I used.) Ill experiment with some other material that I have and do a variation of this necklace, for the more common use.

Currently I am working on Neytiri's purple top/necklace that she is seen wearing. the one that basically exposes her, yet spiders down her chest. I have half of it done.
Then soon to follow, I will do her armband, bracelet, along with Jake's accessories

feel free to send me an email. I will be making more of these necklaces. (etsy here I come. lol)

Ah, very cool. I have an intense appreciation of real gems. They definitely enhance the piece.

Good luck with that necklace. It looks a lot more complicated than the other one. Are you using beads to create that one, or just cord?

I wish you luck on Etsy. :)

I am actually using beads.. for the first try. then will branch off later.
I like replication movie jewelry.

I applaud your efforts, and I really like the jewelry.

I once made an exact replica (well, in silvr--gold is expensive!) of the dagger ankhs in the hunger, complete with a hidden-catch snap-lock sheath so you could hold the ankh in your hand and flick off the sheath with your thumb. But thatw as long ago. The point being is that I like this kind of creativity. I hope to see more, and by replying, I am adding myself to the notification list just in case you post any more pics later.

Alrighty, I have made a second version of this choker.
And instead of wearing it cause you cant really see it when I do that. I just took a close up of it.
So now you can see the detail. ^^

this one is made from hemp thread. You can choose the color of brown you want. found at any local craft store.
The beads.. they are actually plastic believe it or not. makes the choker lightweight.

What you see here is the bar and circle clasp. In the movie they used a stone to match the other ones. I chose this way, that way it can easily be removed, and there would be not much fraying at the ends. as is common with worn 24/7 hemp thread.

I also threw in a secret weapon. (dun dun dun)  8LB fishing line.  Why you ask?  With hemp and continuous wear, it WILL stretch. and since this is supposed to be a choker. (non stretchy)  the fishing line holds the tension of the choker.

Still working on the drawn wrap instructions.
Though this is the exact wrap tech. they used in the movie. if you compare this pic to those of Neytiri's in the movie you can see. (secretly so proud of my self lol)

This is good stuffs. Seriously on target--and I like the fishing line idea; smart thinking. No one who saw this on you would ever notice the sneaky addition, and no one who bought it would care. This is what separates the true journeyman jeweler from the apprentice, or the mundane metal stampers who call themselves jewelers.

I also like the clasp idea. It is native enough that it does not detract from the necklace (the LAST thing anyone is going to be oggling is the clasp while you are wearing it), but adds durability, and it looks like ease of use. Troublesome clasps are a b****. Also, I am really digging the wrap itself. That is so cool that it makes the necklace.

Fantastic, I can't wait for the tutorial! I have some hemp at home and I know of a good store to buy stones from! let the hunt begin.

The hemp cord looks a bit scratchy. Is it? How does it feel on the neck?

How does a man choose between fresh and fly?

Okay, so last night I was playing around on that site where they make Avatar replica jewelry and daggers and Na'vi busts, and I have to say that I am stunned at just how amazing your skill is. Your work is every bit as good as what they are selling over there (and they are not cheap!!). Your work is truly amazing. You may want to consider making the arm and legbands, or joining the discussion on "flying goggles," as we are yapping about various materials to consider in making the headgear.

Face it kid--you rock. Just don't ever quit being creative and crafty. Take it from one who has (occasionally). No matter what anyone (whose opinion you value) says, you keep going. You have serious talent. Have fun with that.

TEACH?  ;D

I fence, and have always toyed with archery, but the compound bows just turn me off--feels like cheating--too many pulleys and sights and whatnot. Doesn't seem like archery to me--sorry if I offend-I am something of a purist). I have long wanted to make my own bow, and have a nice 7-foot split log (in storage. hmm... lot of good it is doing me there). Anyway, teaching archery is about as cool a job as one can get. I need to find a nice laminate bow (no pulleys for me, please) with a 50--60 pound draw, and get my butt to the range.
