I know that 'Wostok' means 'east'. Just flying Wladiwostok [Владивостoк] in my head - an eastern located city.
Wladiwostok in Chinese 海參崴 [Hǎishēnwǎi] meaning "sea cucumber cliffs".

Moskva is a name of a river. Normaly names not change, so like this river. But cities is differently. In German we say 'Moskau' and it's sounds like 'Moscow' in Englisch. Here is the same like in Na'vi. If you try to transscript the name of somewhat, f. e. 'Germany' in Na'vi is 'Toitslan'. It is derived from 'Deutschland'. Or an other good example is my real name 'Roland'. In spanish or italian is Rolando/Orlando, in french Lóránt. So in a other variation happend with 'Moscow/Moskau' to English and German.

Roland in Russian sounds as well as in German. In Latvian - just as well, just add masculine suffix "s" - Rolands.

Well, my name is not really difficult. Adding an 's' (Rolands) here in Germans would mean as genetiv.

Not every name have a change like Moscow. Sure, this with Moskva and Moscow is curiously.
But, that I find now, the city is named after the river in old Russian: Москoв - Moskov

Maybe. Moscow always was named like Москва.

I think Moscow/Moskau comes from the old Russian word 'Moskov', this sounds close to me. Well, I don't know the real origin of this name.

Если подумать, то можно заметить, что "Москов" может быть в Родительном падеже. "Приезжай ко мне в мой новый град(Чего? Кого?) Москов" Всё возможно...
