I found this while doing research for the perm tribe the other day. I figured a few people on this board may at least find it interesting too.

Anyways, it's a 9 month class that meets 3 consecutive days a week and runs during the school year. They pretty much teach you everything there is about the wilderness.

Sounds like a great program! I wish there could be more of this kind of thing in other wilderness areas, like in the Rockies or Appalachians.

I'm seriously considering actually going to this (next year unfortunately, this year just started I believe). I just have NO clue how I'm going to afford it :P (10K)

Sounds like a perfect tool to use when preparing for joining the perm tribe. It's a bit pricey though. But i can't imagine it's any different than a semester iof schooling at an ivy-league college or university.

I agree that this seems like a fantastic way to almost prepare for perm tribe living. Perhaps if only a few people can afford to go, they should be given higher starting positions in the tribe, or maybe even give small classes to the tribe members (:

Definitely agree. Even if just a couple people in the tribe go, it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility to have them teach the other tribe members how to survive. Much a like a real tribe, the older more experienced warriors and members teach the younger members how to do things.

Yeah, that's the plan at the moment ;D. (srry. not trying to hijack this board for tribe discussion, I swear!!)

This is EXACTLY the kind of thing the tribe "elders" need to do before they start the tribe. Much better to go in with a little experience than nothing at all! (Mostly posting so I get updates on this thread)

Yeah, I just spoke with my parents about it (they still don't know I'm doing the tribe :(). I might be able to get some cash from them!

Lol. I know. But I think I've got them this time. I'm probably gonna move back for a while in and let them rent out my condo. This way I can save up some cash and they can match it.

So, what's the curriculum for this Wilderness Awareness Program? What will the participants be doing?

Go to the link in the first post. It details everything about the wilderness survival program. You basically learn everything, from sheltering to self-sufficiency. It's all hands on. No sitting in a classroom (or minimal classroom time). The website tells you everything you need to know.

Well I've put it past my parents (who recognize I'm in a really bad spot financially and need to start taking real steps towards my future) and they haven't said yes but they also haven't said no. Sounds like we just need to work out a few things and I may be going next year.

with a fantasy con, or larp activity's you can learn much.
also a clear mind is important, always think how it could work out.

people with no experience in survival can survive and even sustain themselves well, just by thinking clear.
for me its to far to attain, but i learn by doing.

go to a forest nearby, so if things go wrong you can go back easy.
and research about the area you go to (plants, wildlife, poisonous stuff, and ofcourse laws about hunting / living there)
Oel ayngati kameie i was there

remember power corrups, absolute power..... is a whole lot of fun.
