A project near and dear to me (physically near, I spent a little time growing up living in Port Renfrew which isn't far from this place) is the effort being made to save an amazing grove of old-growth forest which has been dubbed "Avatar Grove".  Yes it's named for the movie ;)

Anyway, I'm not personally involved in the project but I am following it, and they've got a petition going right now which is going to be sent to the provincial government.  Anyway you can read more on the webpage.

This is a beautiful place and I thought those of us here would be very much behind the idea of keeping it from being logged.

The petition and more information are here http://www.ancientforestpetition.com/  and it looks like anyone can sign even if you don't live in Canada.

Help save our beautiful forests!

Awesome, I signed. ;D How cool that it was named after Avatar. :D

Yayo

Signed.
Hopefully the "Avatar Publicity" will get the petition to its desired target.

Cool name for a forest, too, and even cooler that it was named after the movie ;D

Sounds like Avatar Grove will be guest-starring in tonight's episode of The Buried Life at 10:30 on MTV. Check your schedules!
Join the real life Na'vi tribe here  (And yes, it will be a real tribe in the real world, NOT a role play tribe!)

This is awesome news, more exposure is always a good thing!  I'll have to be on the lookout for it >.>

Things seem to be looking up for the grove:

Canada's 'Avatar' forest

but this doesn't mean the fight is over!
