Its up to 300 elephants now? This is one of the most extreme instances of poaching ever recorded and shows a flagrant disrespect for life. Not only will this kill elephants, but everything else that tries to drink that water. And the scores of scavengers (including lions) they try to eat the dead elephants. In this case I have to agree with Raiden: Kill them on sight, and leave them for the scavengers!

Time to treat this like a murder, proper forensics and everything. When found, put them on trial, and send them to Guantanamo Bay, it finally has a justification.

If this goes unpunished, you can kiss good bye to all wild elephants, and who knows what else.

If this technique continues, cyanide will need to be banned from the whole area, and possibly the gold mining too, at least in it's present form.
Maybe signing the mining rights over to a ruthless American corporation (in exchange for legitimate taxation) could provide impoverished villagers incomes, might be the elephants best hope.

In most African countries, poachers used to be shot and left to the hyenas. That was a few years ago, maybe it is different today. Our present society seems to worry about the criminal more than the victim.

For a crime this heinous, a trial is a waste of time. The message should be, if you treat wildlife (or people for that matter) with such contempt, you die now, without mercy.

And this is especially sad because elephant conservation has worked well enough that either there is a very limited amount of legal ivory available, or there will soon be. There are some legitimate uses for ivory (like key covers for some keyboard musical instruments), but technology is constantly coming up with improved replacements.

Irayo, Raiden, for making us aware of this.
It's truly horrible! Sad, very sad only!  :o  :(  :'(
All those poor animals, not just elephants!
My heart bleeds for them.
Hopefully something will be done to stop the slaughter and prevent it from ever happening again!  >:(

Luckily, there has been a worldwide reaction to this truly heinous slaughter. This reaction will hopefully be a message both to the poachers, and to the nation of Zimbabwe that this sort of behavior by fellow human beings will not be tolerated. I suspect (and hope) that we won't see anything like this again for a long time to come.
