What's truly scary is that much of the world's power grid is in danger of catastrophic failure should we ever be hit by a massive solar storm.  And we've been hit by them in the relatively recent past, but the problems caused weren't nearly as severe due to the technology level of the time period.

Most notably, a massive solar storm like ones in the past would blow out many large transformers.  And those things are insanely expensive, take a long time to manufacture, and for a while now there has been a multiple year waiting list for them.

Let's just hope we make it through the next solar activity maximum without our luck running out.
Thas is true, here in Montreal in 1998 we had the ice storm and the power where cut for 1 month, it was the chaos.

Dreamlight

As long as it's not as cheesy as Night of the Comet.
