Well Best Buy had a release event, at select Best Buy locations. From 10:30-1:30 you could go in, chill, play some games, etc. Mine was not one of the ones hosting this.  The list that was online was a list of Best Buys doing the event. Most other Best Buys just opened at Midnight and called it done.

At hastings, there were a good amount of people (around 15 maybe) but it was all just awkward standing around and waiting. Most of the were middle-aged or thereabouts, and nobody asked about my shirt or the cards. But I did leave piles of them throughout the store in the Games and Comics memorabilia sections, as I figured people who like that stuff would tend to like Avatar. I also left a good amount at the checkout counters for the less-committed people who pick it up today.
I did get the movie for $18, and a snazzy pair of 3D sunglasses, just for fun.

Here's to not knowing exactly what you're saying and having fun with it.

Ok apparently I did get one bad picture on my camera.  This is Payoeng and I at Best Buy picking up Avatar.  And I just noticed why he insisted on standing on my left...  Bastard!

MOAR PICS!

Anyhow, I do not know what I am going to do with like 6-10 displays that my Best Buy had. I don't have space for them...

The Reno release was disappointing. I prepared 20 copies of a brief Na`vi tutorial I will share later. Had a 10 second power outage while working on it, so I had to backtrack a bit when power came back on. I was also getting calls from work-- antenna icing was wreaking havoc with the operator's ability to monitor our off-air signal.

I left for Best Buy at 10:30, not realizing just how lousy the weather had become. I didn't have any problems driving, but there were a couple of significant accidents-- getting turned around going in the other direction (in a skid) on a freeway does not make your day!

No one at Best Buy at 11 PM. Stayed in my car as it was raining/snowing. While waiting, I talked on the radio with my ham radio friends. We had quite a discussion about 3D technology and old 3D films. One person there mentioned that he was coming in to pick up a copy.

One person walked up to the door about 11:50, and I joined him. As I walked up to the door, a couple more showed up. I didn't even bother to take any of my flyers with me. Between the wind and the rain, they would have been ruined, plus there would be little time to talk about things. I mentioned to one person that I found out about this through LearnNavi. We talked briefly about conlangs, but he didn't seem real interested in learning Na`vi. He did mention though, that he thought this event wasn't as well-attended as it could have been, due to poor promotions. New game, he said, is what drew the crowds. Of course, the weather was not helping!

By the time they opened the store, there were about 8 of us. I ended up second in line. No one was dressed up. This sounds like a number not out of line with what others had experienced. Although they had some sales people there, their main interest was accommodating DVD buyers. I picked up just the standard DVD ($15.99)-- did not haggle on the price. (The Blu-Ray version is on Amazon pre-order, but it looks like it will not be here until the 29th.) I wish I would have thought about the store displays. I might give them a call (although my house is cluttered enough with Narnia store displays!). I also did not take any pictures.

I looked at a couple of other Avatar-themed things briefly, and left with my DVD. Store receipt says 12:02 AM. Mission accomplished.

Now for the other problem-- getting a DVD player that works  :P

BTW, I liked those little cards someone made. Wish I had seen them before I went to all the trouble to make what I made.

So, apparently, Kawazoe gets his preorder today and I have to wait a week.  WTF?

We both ordered from Amazon, just one day apart (but it was back when the preorder started, so they have had plenty of time).  We payed for the same shipping (2nd day or whatever), yet mine is not going to arrive until the 29th.

I will be giving Amazon a call and requesting a full refund of my shipping charge since its giving me absolutely nothing.

Yeah the idea was kinda thought of and came to me at the last minute so I had to rush them out a bit... I'm happy you like them ;D

I will load pix later, I spent $16.00 and was one of the first people in Tacoma WA to get it. I unfortunately could not take in store pix as Fred Meyer has some sort of rule against it.
