Ok listen up people.

We decided to start a fan art contest for the book we are making for James Cameron, since it seems kind of cheesy to use only pictures from his own movie.

About the contest :
The contest will start at 07.01.2010 ( 12:00 in each country ) and will end 1 week later ( 14.01.2010 ( 16:00 in each country ) ).
We will proceed like this :
You start to draw or paint your fan art tomorrow, then you will save it untill the contest end. At 14.01.2010 you will post your fan art picture here. When the contest ends there will a 3 day long vote.

How to submit a picture:
Pictures can be drawn by hand or made with photoshop etc.
Simply send your picture with your forum nickname to [email protected]
Add a comment to it and it's done.

The Voting :
Everyone is allowed to vote on every fan art picture submitted.

All pictures that will be send to that address will be uploaded to the website we created.

To vote simply send an email to the address above, which contains a rating like this:
Rated - 0/10  to 10/10 + "Author name"
"Comment about the picture + the scene it shows"
Everyone can only vote one time for EACH picture, but for as many pictures as you like.

Those pictures who win the contest will be highlighted on the website. Also the rating will be shown for each picture.

After the voting is over we will get the best pictures and print them into the book when it's done.

everything is clear, just three questions:)

-how many pictures per illustrator? can i send only one illustration, or can i send more?
i presume we can send more than one because of the "description of the scene it shows" which is required to vote.

-which size (pixels, DPI...) should be the pics? if it is arbitrary, do we send full-sized pics (for example 3000x2500 300dpi = many megs:) to your email) or previews of sort (say, 800x600, 150dpi)?

-is the picture format important (portrait/landscape, 4:3/16:9)?

do we post our pictures here when the timeline expires or are you doing that? can we send pics to your email when they're done or we must also wait for timeline to expire?

You can submit as many pictures as you like.
For the size : There is no size restriction, just the quality has to match ( best as possible ), E-Mail address has 1.5gb space so it doesnt matter.
For the format : The book will be about this size  Width : 12 Inch Height : 8 Inch
                      That means it will be some kind of "widescreen" book. so i think 16:9 is a good format.


You can post your pictures here but please also send them to the email address so we can store them.

You can draw it yourself if you want to, but you can also send us a picture made with 3-D modeling software or made with photoshop.
We will also accept art works made from movie screenshots put together etc.

well, i can see why dr sam clemens is concerned and i think that it would be good manners to reply:)

as of me, i am doing an illustration already, and i might even do couple of them. i am taking this contest as a interesting "side quest" and i really don't care if it is going to be published or where, or to whom it is addressed, i am doing this because i like it, and even more, there's a deadline which is cool because if there wasn't one, i would probably never finish, as i am one lazy bastard:)

Since there will be only 1 book printed at all, there won't be any "buisness" at all

So no, I don't have buisness interests.

It seems like a good idea, but 1 week is way too short a deadline, considering the time it takes to think of a good fanart idea and actually execute a piece, and most people have to work or study as well.
