So, I have this made up dragon-like critter called the D'rakka....

They are roughly the size of a horse....and after seeing Avatar, it gave me this idea.

My idea of the D'rakka is that it is a creature created by an ancient race of nearly omnipotent people (kind of like the Q from Star Trek) to simply observe intelligent species. They adapt fully to the environment of whatever planet they are placed on, taking on adaptations of the native fauna. They have little to no impact on the natural ecosystem of the planet...except on Pandora, where they can actually connect and interact with the natives on a much higher level than just speaking (since they can't talk).

There are so few of them on Pandora that most Na'vi only know of them from legends...and the humans have no recorded sightings of them.

I have a very over-active imagination. X3
So what if I'm a furry?

Neat concept and back story for it.
I'd thought up something similar, but they'd look just like Na'vi, till they went into human air when they'd automatically adapt and look just like humans.
But, crucially, if one was cut in one form it would continue to bleed from the same wound even after changing forms.
They'd be considered an out cast wherever they went, would have some of their own tech, but no transport.
I'd probably make them their races version of an avatar, but using something very different to the humans psyonic link technology.
They'd be ultra long lived (1000 years-ish) and one per planet at any given time, the one from earth could stow away and come to pandora.

Your not the only one to have a very over-active imagination.  8)

Yeah i have to admit it looks kinda cool, but I dont think that it fits the usual for pandora. Maybe its just me but i dont think it would fit in.
Go climbing, its better for you than xbox.

I would suggest a different name though, the language has no "d"s and double consonants other than the two psuedovowels are illegal. The creature looks pretty good though, could be more colorful though.

Ok...the D'rakka is not native to Pandora...thus, they aren't perfectly adapted to the planet.
Second....they had the name 'D'rakka' LONG before I tossed them onto Pandora.

And they would be much more colorful.

The D'rakka is a creature of my own...I'm not going to change what makes them mine to fit them into a world that isn't mine...and thus lose what makes them unique.

So, in the words of a good friend, 'get off my dick'

Well, you could simply call them something different on Pandora. There's nothing wrong with keeping the original name.

The D'rakka is a very neat concept, though.

I was curious to know: is the black and white drawing an original concept? the computer renders are obviously lacking the two fore arms depicted in the black and white drawing.

The computer renders are what the D'rakka naturally looks like. The lower lip is flexible, much like the 'fingers' at the end of an elephant's trunk.

The drawing is how the D'rakka would change and adapt to live on Pandora. Becoming hexapedal and developing a second pair of smaller eyes. And, of course, the two antennas, which grow out of the backs of the horns. And while the normal D'rakka is about the size of an earth horse, the Pandora D'rakka is roughly the same size as a dire horse.
So what if I'm a furry?

Very nice indeed.

Are D'rakka carnivores or omnivores? They look to be carnivores. Could they give Thanators a run for their money?

The D'rakka is an omnivore, kind of like a bear. The large lower fangs are actually tusks and only the male's tusks stick out of their mouth like that.

some sketches of the head of a normal D'rakka:

Snarly face:

And two variations, no fur and long fur:

I'll have a good side view of a Pandora D'rakka soon.

Wow, that thing is awesome. Both the fur and no fir ones could be present, the no fur ones in the northern/southern polar regions.

I prefer the look of the no-fur one, but with-fur for colder areas makes sense.
