Kaltxì Palulukan!

This is so bad it is painful, but it is funny!    :)

I apologize for any mistakes in grammar--but I did try. Please note that the first line is possible, but like a lot of song adaptations/parodies/translations, one must squeeze in multiple sylables to fit the beat count. This first line works, but it took me all day, and a LOT of frustration to master it.

Olo'eyktan-l   t<ol>ìng   oe<ti>  turkru
Iray--Iray--oooo

Ulte fa oeyä tukru Oe-l tskxekeng
Iray--Iray--oooo

hu takuk takuk fìtseng

fìtseng takuk, tsatseng 'eko

frapeseng(<---??) takuk takuk

Ulte fa oeyä tukru Oe-l tskxekeng

Yaay!  :D  :D

This is too fantastic! Txantslan nìhawng leiu nang!  ;D

You totally inspired me, so I've stolen your idea and thanks to the incredible flexibility of Na'vi word order, I offer a musical reply.

   Olo'eyktánta túkrut-tìmél

   Ha oéyä túkrúfá tskxékeng óe
   Iray--Iray--oooo

I just got a spear from the Chief of our clan
   Thank you. Thank you. Soooo.

So I practice with my spear wherever I go
   Thank you. Thank you. Soooo.

   Now I strike over here,

   And atack over there.

   Here a strike, there attack!

We're off to ride, so watch your back!

I received a spear from the Chief of our clan
   Thank you. Thank you. Soooo.

AND, I believe the next verse might start with:

   Nári si, mìsátseng lu palulukán!
   Zéne set kivä KO!
...

I predict that this and expanded future versions of this will be sung (rather LOUDLY) at conventions across our fair planet.  ;)

Oh no, that is the point! My songs are most likely pretty crappy, but the idea is to get the word out (and get people practicing). Children's rhymes and songs that "everyone knows" have a basic beat pattern or melody that you can parody, or change the words altogether. It's a bit tough at first, given the limited number of Na'vi words we have to work with, but it is fun to sing, it teaches you patterns of Na'vi words to help you build phrases (er . . . when the grammar is correct), and when writing these songs, it teaches you to think in Na'vi.

I really should have a contest, just to get people doing this. It will help many many people learn Na'vi the fun way!  :)

P.S. I LOVE your version more than mine. I may want to include it in the new version of the activity book. Write more Write more! And yes, yesterday, when i was making this up at work, I was foreseeing it sung loudly (and badly  ;D ) at cons everywhere. One can only hope! I will make  "Na'vi songbook" section for the activity book. You will get full writing credits of course.

Here are songs that lend themselves to Na'vi: Row, row, row your boat, This old man (the patty cake song), the theme from Gilligan's island (opening or closing theme), and "Three Blind Mice" (seen here):

http://forum.learnnavi.org/spam/if-they-had-tv-on-pandora/

Oh, care to see if you can improve on this version of row, row, row your boat?

'Upe, 'upe. upe   lu ral                    <---- What, what, what's (the) meaning
(row  row  row your boat)

Tawvrrtep--yä      ìnlglìsì?              <---- of sky-demon words?
(gently up the   stream)

Kawtu omum, kawtu omum             <---- No one knows, no one knows
(merilly merilly merilly merilly)

Aytatwtute lu a-skxawn                     <---- Sky people are blind ("un-seeing" morons)
(Life is but a dream)

Thank you! Please try to think of it this way. We have a vocabulary so limited it is a wonder we can do song parodies at all. The sylable sounds for "Old Mc Donald" (Olo'Eyktan, and Irayo/E-I-E-I-O) were an unplanned godsend. It came to me after I had decided to come up with words to fit that tune. We have very few words, so we use what we can. Over time, when we have more words, naturally everyone will be able to write a Na'vi song (or karaoke, or parody) in a few minutes. But all in all, it is a great way to learn phrases and phraseology.

Also: Prrton, I am going to give you full co-writing credits, since you cleaned up my grammar and made the song so much better. I will make a note of this in the activity book :)

Got tired of singing (or trying to) Prrton's song to Frommer so I went and recorded "Olo'eyktanta tukrut-tìmel"

Don't hate my pronunciation/singing, I did this in only a few takes and I really need to get to bed.

http://talknavi.com/audio/80/olo%E2%80%99eyktanta-tukrut-t%C3%ACmel

EDIT: Okay, I really need to go to bed now but I did the "Row, row, row your boat" one as well:

You are officially the most funnest Mod--EVER!!

Thank you (again)! I wanted to get these recorded (I was thinking today how bad my singing voice is :-\ ), so thank you for sparing me the effort! This will be fun AND it will help and inspire people.

And not to nitpick, but it is "our" song  :D  Prrton took my song and made it a LOT better--and now you recorded it, so it really is our song--oh wait, I know the word for that: pxoe!

EDIT: I just listened to both (and downloaded them). This is so fun! We really need to do more of these. (I am working on Gilligan's Island :) )

These are really fantastic!

Do you guys know "and the green grass grows all around"? There's a call-and-response in the beginning, with a chorus where things get added on to infinity. It goes like this:
There was a tree (there was a tree)
the prettiest tree (the prettiest tree)
that you ever did see (that you ever did see)
AAANNND THEEE
Tree was in the hole
and the hole was in the ground
and the green grass grows all around and around, and the green grass grows all around.

Next iteration: there was a branch ... AAND THEEE branch was on the tree, and the tree was in the hole....
Then: there was a twig .... AANNDD THEEE twig was on the branch, and the branch was on the tree....
Then: there was a bird .... AAANNDD THEEE bird was on the twig, and the twig was on the branch...

So... in Na'vi, I'd hope to end up with some long chain of ridiculousness like the atokirina' was on the swizaw, and the swizaw was on the tsko, and the tsko was on the girl, and the girl was on the ikran, and the ikran was on hometree, and hometree was on the ground, and the loreyu grows all around and around, and the loreyu grows all around!!!! ...

Anyway, so first draft... this will be horrible and all wrong...

lu 'aw utral
is one tree i am not sure how to say "there was" ... and i don't even know if this is right

lora utral
beautiful-adjective tree

aynga ts<am>e'<ei>a
you-all see-[past][laud] hey, can I make "see" into an intransitive verb? "you see." =(

ULTE
AAANNNDD

utral mì kllte
tree in ground (i cry)

ulte loreyu fìtseng '<ei>ong
and spiralyflower here blossom[laud]

ulte loreyu '<ei>ong
and spiralyflower blossom[laud]

AUUGHHH THE PAIN

Next verse attempt:

lu 'aw ikran
lora ikran
aynga ts<am>e'<ei>a
UUUULLTEEEEEE

ikran 'em utral
ikran above tree

ulte utral mì kllte
ulte loreyu fitseng '<ei>ong
ulte loreyu '<ei>ong

Need help!!! Please advise!!! hahaha

I love it! I wish you had posted this a few days ago, as I would have slipped it in as a last-minute entry into the Na'vi songbook. BUT, maybe someone (this is a hint) will compile all of the fun songs we have posted so far into an "Unofficial Na'vi Songbook" with the idea that it is a work in progress, and is good exercise for anyone who wants to try and improve (the song or the grammar). We are building a wealth of resources for future students of Na'vi. As much as we should strive to be as correct as possible, we should not let mistakes slow our progress nor deter our enthusiasm. By the time A2 or even A3 come out, we should have a working songbook :)

Okay, just an update, since no one will ever see it if I don;t mention it here:

http://forum.learnnavi.org/fiction-fanfiction/my-first-(er-second)-attempt-at-navi-fiction-(one-small-scene)/

I wrote a quick scene that surrounded the "I hate Bosco/I Tawtute" song. I can finally stop singing this now that I have written down how I see it playing out in my head.
