Not sure where was best to put this, but this seemed as good a place as any.  Might also liven up this candle lit end of the forum too - hehehe.

For those who are interesting in film making I found a really cool site:

www.filmskills.com

It is a website with a shed load of intstructional videos by film makers passing on their skills.  It is a subscription thing ($40 for a month or $400 for a year), but if there was a specific topic you wanted to learn and can set the time aside, it seems excellent value for money... Well to me anyway - I know some one day course are in the $100s!

Anyway if you are into film making and want to take it further, as Jake would say, 'check it out'!

There are tons of free resources available as well, including magazines like 'Millimeter'.

Too bad you can't be over here for the annual National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas in April. (I will likely be there, DJ Makto and a few others will be there as well. Last year, DJ and I got to hear James Cameron give the opening address. We had 'close seats' and we were still 50 yards back!) There, you can rub shoulders with hundreds of film and video makers (the two fields are very much the same, especially considering that many 'films' are actually shot on video). You can see lots of way-cool film and video equipment. And admission is free for exhibits only, which you cant possibly see all of even in four days! In the fall, you have a similar show in Amsterdam, called IBC.

Agree. Why pay if there is a lot of free resources?

Yeah, your right 'Eylan.  There is plenty of free stuff out there too.  You only have to do a search on YouTube!.  I just though it of interest to any budding film makers.  Although there is not substitute for going out there with any camera and just making loads of films and videos about anything and everything.  I just wish I had got into film making sooner than I did - I was just as I was finishing school and I was already heading down an engineering route - oh well.  I do film making as a hobby now - when time allows.  Work gets in the way - Meh!

I am in a camcorder club which sort of helps...only they are an older age group to me which means they are not exactly into the sort of films I would like to do.  I did give a talk on You tube and 'collaborative' film making last Wednesday.  So they got the full Avatar treatment alright!  ;)  The AvatarMeet Promo and Our Only Home.  I think they were still awake by the time I got to the end.  Hahahaha.

Seems like you all seem to get the good stuff over your way.  :P  Not sure they would let an amateur like me in though.  Oooo, and you got to see JC too!  Wow.  How did he fit your expectations of him?

I guess the distinction between film and video is getting very much blurd these days.  Especially as so much is now 'videoed' instead of 'filmed' and can still be made to look like film.

I'm currently learning about stereotography at the moment...somot to do with interocular-axis-convergence-parallax-horizontal-pixel-shift...or something  ;D ;D

See ya around no doubt...Seattle?
