A common trap for English-speakers to fall into is to accidentally forget to put in a word for "my" in phrases like this, as "ma" sounds like "my" and subconsciously registers as being it. In case you didn't know, "ma" means "O" in the Old English sense, similar to @ on Twitter, to show you are addressing someone; they are not a grammatical part of the sentence (compare "I eat Bob" with "I eat, Bob" in English - in Na'vi, you would use "ma" for the latter but not the former). Since you are talking about a dead person here, I highly doubt you are addressing them (unless it's via, for example, the tree of voices), so you probably don't want a "ma". If you ARE addressing them, however, the "ma" would go at the beginning of this particular noun phrase (before "oeyä").

-ä (for words that end in any consonants, as well as o or u) and -yä (for words that end in any vowels apart from o and u) are added onto nouns to show that they belong to someone/something (oeyä tsko, my bow), or that something is "of" them (txe'lan tskxeyä, heart of stone (not sure if this metaphor is used in Na'vi or not, but it's just an example)). These suffixes show that the noun is genitive, or GEN for short. -a-, on the other hand, is added to either side of an adjective to show which noun the modify. The "a" should appear closest to the noun that the adjective modifies. This does not apply when you are using the adjective "predicatively" - in other words, using it with lu, slu or 'efu (so, it would be "fìtokx lu tsleng", this body is false, but "tokx atsleng" OR "tslenga tokx", false body). This process is called attribution.



You may also wish to say what you want more literally - my friend who is with Eywa:

Oeyä 'eylan a (lu) hu Eywa

I love this comparison--@ makes perfect sense. Ma is a pretty confusing word because to English speakers it does sound so much like 'my'.
