(it needs a name, something that's distinctive, one that suggests that this thanator might be used as an image to rally warriors around, an emblem, something almost heraldic. What's 'badge' in Na'vi?)

Good catch ! Completely forgot about that. Feel like such a skxawng. Well, that's the way first drafts go. . .

I liked the idea of Quaritch getting scared off, though. This is just a first encounter. Can't have one or the other winning too much. For me, Neytiri is just a "feeler", the first one to have contact with the new Quaritch. And since she killed him before, that puts them in a unique position. For me, some kind of confrontation was essential. But not the big one. I'm kinda leaning toward that being between Quaritch and Grace. Jake will get his licks in too, but since the human Quaritch was a pretty muscular dude compared to the wheelchair-bound Jake, I think the avatar Quaritch would be much stronger than Jake's--even though Jake is now pretty buff, himself. But I could be wrong.

I'm bummed about the thanator. Damn, I like that image! Maybe another thanator would let her ride him. Or maybe this one is the brother to the dead thanator. . . or maybe her ikran saves her?  I suppose if I'm going to have a "deus ex machina" here, why not Jack Sparrow or even Jerry Lewis?

just use a generic thanator (or you could make it so one roars nearby and quaritch smacks neytiri to the ground and leaves saying it's not worth the effort he will just let the thanator do it for him)
