Because I just started studying Na'vi last Monday, and although I'm getting the hang of the language, I don't know a whole lot about the other aspects of Na'vi culture. I want to write (at least) a short story about a Na'vi girl. Srung?

Well, WE don't know a whole ton about the culture, BUT The Activist's Survival Guide tells a lot about it. All we know for sure about the culture comes from the movie, and that guide. I would get that guide. it has lots of extra info on stuff from the movie and whatnot...if not, I suggest finding someone who owns one. around here, it shouldnt be hard. I wish you luck with your fanfic st! If you plan to use some of the Na'vi language in it, you know you can always ask me. :D

as someone said to me:
QuoteThis is your pandora.

if you don't know about it make it up (Recommend you make up a clan as then you can avoid having to stick to what little rituals that are known)
Only mostly AWOL.

As a long-time fanfiction writer and reader (over fifteen years) I have to say the writers I respect most are those who do their research.  Make your own story, of course, but if you want to create a ritual or rite yourself, then do your research about similar rites in human aboriginal cultures.

Basically, do your research and create your backstory.  The more research you do, the more believable your fanfic will be, the more respect you'll get from readers and the more enjoyable your fanfic will be.

;) but that's only my opinion.

I agree. I dont really read fanfics, but the ones I do read/enjoy reading are ones whose author made it apparent that much relevant research was done and the story was well crafted, and creative. :D

Try to read some topics in the Na'vi customs and culture part of the forum.
