Ekirä

My first ever attempt at fan fiction! Just a short story.

A young hexapede bounded through the forest, pursued by dark Na'vi boy. In human years he would be sixteen years old, although he was immature for his age. Suddenly he halted, drew back on his bow and let the arrow fly. It landed in the animal's shoulder, making it stumble and fall. He ran to it and pulled out the arrow before killing it with a knife.
"I see you, sister, and thank you," he murmered in his language.
"Korun!"
He turned to see a girl coming towards him, one year younger than he was. He feigned surprise.
"Ekirä! I didn't know you were watching me."
"How do you know I was watching you?" she teased.
Korun started to speak, then stopped, embarrassed. He grinned to cover up his mistake.
"But you did see, right?"
"Yes, ma Korun, I did. A good shot. But...oh Korun, you know I don't like it when you kill animals before they are grown! Why do you do that?"
His smile faltered. Successfully killing the hexapede was supposed to have impressed her, and this wasn't what he had been imagining. He kneeled down by the fallen hexapede and picked it up.
"Ma Ekirä, it is not that young, see?"
She shook her head and said stiffly, "She was too young to die. But I will forgive you, only because you did it to show off to me."
Her words dug deep into Korun's pride, but he kept his mouth shut. He didn't know what to say. Either way, he knew his words wouldn't come out right.
"Come, Korun, I do not wish to embarrass you any further. You are my friend. Let us pretend this never occurred."
He smiled, but inside he was still recoiling from embarrassment. Get a hold of yourself, let go of your pride. Stop being so sensitive! He thought. He remembered what his friend Patur had told him about girls. "If you make a mistake, always apologize; let her know that she is right. Remember, you are wrong, she is right. Girls like to be right."
Korun took a deep breath. "I am sorry. I had not remembered that you disliked it when I hunted young animals. Will you please forgive me?" There! Even Patur couldn't do better than that.
Ekirä cocked her head. "Now where did you learn to speak that well?" She giggled. "Never mind. I originally came to tell you your mother asked to me to come get you, for reasons I do not know. Sometimes I believe she is trying to help our friendship become deeper."
Korun's face grew hot. How could she say things like that? He had to be the shyest boy in the whole clan. Perhaps once I grow up I will be able to laugh at something like that. Now, all I can do is avert my eyes.

This has the beginnings of an interesting story, ma Ekirä.  Please let me know when you post to it again, I would like to read it!  :)

Ekirä

Thanks......but I wrote this more than a year ago, had totally forgotten it even existed. :P It was only meant to be a short story, I believe. ;)

Well, I like it. Hope you get a chance to pursue it someday...it sounded fun.  :D
