Oh no... Is my GPU's too slow? 11m for 1%, but that work - 50 million steps..?

And a silly question. What is SMP :P

My GTX470 was the second most powerful GPU offered by Nvidia until they released the Geforce 500 some weeks ago. So it is still quite fast ;)

Symmetric Multiprocessing (i. e. having more than one CPU or core)

111 WU folded (though the certificate says 110 - needs some time to update?)! :)
Two days ago we were at 70 WUs :o

Are the WUs for GPU generally more complex ones or is it Random? (CPU: 250,000 steps; GPU: 5,000,000 steps)

11m for 1% is good when you compare it to my GPU...my Geforce 8300 is taking more than twice that (26m per 1%).

My SMP client is running at about the same pace...

Sheesh, I'm glad I just have a dual core computer which runs stuff. I have no problems with SMP GPU CPUs.
However, you can ask me about SMTP, POP3 and IMAP. ;)

And I thought mine was slow... (6m per 1%)

The projects differ depending on the client and architecture. For example you can do most on regular CPUs but to gain a high amount of points you need a really crazy computer. The PS3's Cell processor is quite powerful but also quite complex to program (didn't had the oppurtunity to try it on my own yet) and the GPU is - in terms of peak performance - the fastest of all three but only for certain problems.

Actually, if you have the right computer, you can achieve most points on this plattform. A computer I have access to needs for the biggest available WUs somewhat over 20 minutes/percent so it would complete a WU in approx 1.5 days - but those WUs are worth over 75 000 points! That's why I asked if someone would be interesting in donating because those devices are far away from being cheap ;)

I just installed Folding@home on 3 of my computers, curious to see how well my Atom D510 server stacks up compared to my larger dual core Xeon server...

I'm folding on an atom D510 too. 2 times the uniprocessor client (2x 69 points/WU), I think SMP is to crazy on Atom.

Apparently my 3 systems managed to return 5 WUs while I was asleep. Not sure where they came from...I checked the logs before bed and only had 3 WUs due in overnight...

How the points to be calculated..?

you must finish your WU to get points

Some WUs carry many points some just a few, and the difference between them is so large

I'll send you same message that Bommel sent to me:
QuoteThe project you work on. And this depends on the client. For example, you can currently achieve the most points when using the SMP CPU client with the bigadv flag (up to 100k points/WU). But you need a very (and I mean *very*) fast computer for it and it has a very short deadline (must be completed in 3 days or so). Those WUs have also a bonus system. Each project has a certain amount of base point, let's say 900. You can gain a bonus if you complete it before reaching the preferred deadline (let's say 3 days again). If you need more time but complete it before reaching the final deadline (maybe 6 days) you just gain the base point amount. The bonus is a factor the base points are multiplied with. The faster you complete the WU, the higher this factor gets.

The normal CPU client doesn't give you so many points because it is build for slow computers. For example you have a very long deadline (maybe 10+ days or even longer) and the projects are not as complex as on other clients.
