Last week I did a 24+ hours Prime95 torture test and it was all fine, no BSODs, no Prime errors, nor any WHEA log entries. I guess it's stable now ;-)
I did some testing at 4.2 GHz before but I had to raise the voltages to make it stable. And it starts to get hot then, at least with Prime95 (> 70 °C). The increased PPD wasn't worth the additional heat IMHO. I'd like to keep the CPU for a while therefore I'm pretty conservative regarding the temps and voltages - and this is my first time OC so I'm lacking practical experience on that field too.

I stopped my main folding server last week (to be more precise: I stopped fah not the server itself) because I'd like to save some power and my new setup produces almost twice the PPD at lower power consumption.

Interesting. My personal OC record was 4,4GHz with my Intel 2600 non-K!
I've use OCing by tubo boost - CPU 34 standard + 4x turbo boost + 4x OCed turbo * 105MHz base frequency is resulting ~4400 MHz @ 1,210Volt - stable! :)
But I was extremely careful, not to grill my motherboard. :o

I like my PC too much to OC my 2500K. Still, it's definitely tempting. I need to get a good water cooler one of these days.

I do it just for testing and to know, where the limit is. Temperatures was not likely... 75°C at load.
For this test I turned up the cooling fans of my case on maximun...it sounds like tornado. :o

Moderate OC won't do any harm to your CPU, think of Intel's Turbo Boost Technonolgy (that's OC too strictly speaking). Even high temps aren't that bad compared to high voltages. Although I would try to keep temps below 70 °C (+/-) at full load (i. e. Prime95). I OC'd my CPU and undervolted it at the same time to keep the temps as low as possible.

Oh yes, I know. I simply like to keep my CPU cool to extend the life and avoid any headaches. However, I really should look at OCing it with an undervolt as you did. That would probably be worth it for my processor since I usually idle around 50°C.
