OUR Avatar Game
« on: May 29, 2010, 03:15:01 pm »
Right this is it, the thread for the game. First off, I think we need to have a brainstorm of ideas and flesh out the plan. I think personally that this should be a sandbox style rpg, created with the unreal engine 3 as its free to use and can be used to create some stunning environments. Post ideas below!

i think we should make it so you can be a tawtute or a na'vi

and set it so both have sort of home areas, neutral areas and hostile areas
e.g. tawtute: home - hells gate. neutral - plains and light forests. hostile -moutians, dense jungle and na'vi occupied territory
Na'vi: home - hometree and surrounding area. neutral jungle, light forest. hostile - hells gate and tawtute occupied places
Only mostly AWOL.

a game like just cause- open world play, with missions, maybe mix in some other sorta missions too along with the main story line- which shouldn't follow the film- make your own story.

also have 3 factions instead of just 2

Na'Vi
AVTR programme
Marines

then each one has subsets in which you can specialise
eg
Na'Vi- hunter, Ikran makto etc
AVTR Programme- scientist, escort, anthropologist
Marines- Grunt, AMP suit pilot, Pilot

and as an afterthought you could even add in just simple roles like driver and miner etc (thats if you want to go down the MMO route)

I think it's certainly out of our reach for an mmo, not just because of the immense work involved but also because of the need of constant maintenance of servers. Just saying before we even go down that path. I love the idea of having different areas that are good bad and neutral. I also like the idea of choosing rda or na'vi, just wondering how that could be done without some serious delving into code (if anyone is up to the challenge....)
I think we should start identifying certain members skills so that we can give out roles for when this goes live.

also, seen as we certainly seem to be going into the open world idea, how big do you think it should be. Keep in mind that bigger is not always better!

*puts up hand* i cant draw or write code, but i can write a mean story- well a basic plot in less than 2 hours- and i can also (so i have been told by teachers, for the record i dont believe them) do good voice acting.

yep thats pretty much my skill set right there, unless understanding how to time up correctly a 600cc kawasaki quadbike will come in useful

edit

bigger isnt always better, but, a larger area will enhance the gameplay- take just cause for example- its a huge area so its very improbable that you will learn the layout of the whole place, this makes for more intense gameplay when running away or getting to a location becasue there are 4 or 5 routes each one different, if there is one or 2 routes you quickly learn the safe ones and the unsafe ones

right ikrana! you can be story lead (subject to change) see if you can write us up some goodies. I've had some experience creating 3d environments/level design as I used to create maps for halo 1 pc, I've used UDK sveral times too so I'm fairly familiar with that too.

i have never done anything like this really (only map making for strategy games and level making for doom) so i'll take a while to get teh hang of the software (downloading the Unreal engine as i post)

but i think we should probably make the map fairly small because.....
1) we can make a more focused area with a lot more in it
2)expansions. once we have built the first section who said we couldn't expand it at a later date

i can probably have a crack at voice acting or plot writing and map designing although i am better at military style areas rather that open areas

well none of us are by no means experts and we have no deadlines so we have all the time in the world to get to grips and learn some stuff. I like that idea of expansions, i never considered that. Voice acting any of us can definitely do because there we be need for alot of dialogue I should think

2 established NPC from the film (neytiri, tsu'tey etc)

3 big little or no plot twist

4 any prefered names for new NPC

1 i think before

2 i think there shoudln't be any existing npc's, like the actual game because it would make it difficult.

3 plot twist or not, doesn't matter as long as there is some kind of climax to the story

4 we could have community members for the npc's :D

also easter eggs are a must methinks

he's an expansion on that..

how about we ask about and get some people who will do the voices on the named NCPs and use their name (if it's a na'vi one)
so they essentualy play a na'vi (or a sawtute) version of themselves :D

1) After (possibly Different clan, different area, but still affected by the events (or effected BECAUSE of the events I.e RDA return and badger new tribe, and Jake, Norm, Neytiri and the peeps lend assistance...or something)

2)Don't mind

3)You gotta love a plot twist, convoluted plots FTW!

4) Don't ask me, my language development has been...slow..to say the least...

@ tawtewng

Yes... and his arch nemesis, leader of the "layonukru" tribe the one know as...Eatawsawl... or something (damn, this smashing-words-together-into-names lark is harder than it looks!)

1 problem with having set NPCs is that you have to get them to do voice overs for you, and for us that could be a problem but ill work on a before story and after stroy basic plots and have them up asap

ok i will check everyso often, but i will stay online, wheres my beer i need to be drunk to get a good start * looks for beer and cant find* oh well ill do it sober then
