Avatar MMORPG?

I like how this is sounding. An Avatar MMO would be awesome. Although, the more I read of Kezlyr's posts, it sounds more and more like WoW.

The threat system would have to be addressed. As mentioned, a lone researcher in his/her Avatar body wouldn't pose a threat but I don't think a researcher would be alone. The researcher would more than likely have bodyguards with him/her. (Like when Grace and Norm went out to collect samples and Jake was their security detail.) A threat scale, a Na'vi seeing a human/Avatar with a gun would see it as a possible threat and keep a watchful eye.

Lets not forget the fauna that populate Pandora. Every so often you may come across a palulukan or ikran that may be hunting in some zones. Not to mention the viperwolves that appeared in the night. (There is probably going to be some day/night system. Like you talk with someone that asks if you want to explore the night or day and it changes the scenery along with what else is out there. Other players may be there as well.) Also, what if there is a challenge too big for one character? (Such as a boss or some form of *elite NPC?) What if there were no other players that were around to assist you? Could there be some way to recruit other NPCs to come with you? (such as a fellow taronyu or possibly *ahem* "family" if you play as the Na'vi.)

One more thing, will there be some sort of healer class and what do you do if your character dies? Will it be like WoW where you can run back to your corpse? Or will Eywa "let you borrow more energy?"

Theres my two-cents for now.

Healer class would be better for an MMO, like a tsahik or something.

It would be amazingly easy to get "Quests" too, either from the olo'eytkan, Tsahik, or from Eywa herself; or as an RDA employee from varius bosses, Quaritch or Selfridge...

It might also be that various tribal camps or Avatar remote sites are "safe camping" spots for Avatars that are "asleep".

Supposedly, once the next movies come out (and some books that are planned), we may also have some of the other moons of Polyphemus to explore, too. One advantage to playing the RDA would be access to shuttles that allow exploration to those sites. It would be hard to justify handwaving a shuttle in Na'vi hands, much less being able to operate it.

Character classes for RDA, hmmm... Adminsitration, Operations, Sciences & Medical, Security
Civilian:
Admin maybe allows you to operate a shop in Hell's Gate
Operations gives access to the workings of the base
Sciences & Medical is where the Avatar program can be found and access to civilian Samson pilot.

Security is subdivided into--
Infantry (start out as a grunt; at level quota you choose AMP suit, Tech, Medic or Door Gunner)
AMP suit (reach a level to unlock)
Transport Pilot (Samson; must reach level quota as Door Gunner to unlock)
Gunship Pilot, Light (Scorpion; must reach level quota in Samson to unlock)
Gunship Pilot, Heavy (Dragon: must reach a level quota in Scorpion to unlock)
Tech
Medic
Command (must reach level quotas in one of the previous mentioned career paths)

Great new ideas guys, but I think you're going too " wow heavy" :p try thinking outside the oiginal mmorpg box, because an avatar mmorpg would be anything but traditional :)

Lightna

I realize that but we're just attempting to cover the basics such as what types of classes (Tank, DPS, Heals) and what we may have to do in case of the event your character dies.

Swizaw Nguway

Great, we have all the ideas, now all we need is 5000 programmers, 5 years and a whole lot of money before we can make it :D

Emtokay

im not sure if its been mentioned but have both side, be human and choose either the marine life or be a scientist or be Na'vi and be part of a clan, eg. Horse Clan of the plains, like how they have different clans in Runescape

I hope nobody is creating an avatar mmorpg for now.   8)
If i ever want an avatar mmorpg i want a real working 3D system for my pc.

I think it's possible, BUT (and that's a big BUT)

The market of MMORPG is ruled by World of Warcraft, Ragnarok, Warhammer Online and those games.
Not long ago, Aion started and look, nobody plays it, cause most of the players play the games above (I know there a more, like Lord of the Rings Online nad Age of Conan, I just wanted to name a few).
Currently, Lucasarts is on its way designing a new Star Wars based MMORPG called The Old Republic. Since Star Wars Galaxy was a no-go and really bad they start all over making things more complex, more attractive, more playable. If this game will ever find its way to the top MMORPGs is still open, since the game is not enough developed yet for an ALPHA or BETA testing.
The announcement of this game was somewhere in late 2009.

If they ever announce a MMORPG for AVATAR it must be good, damn good. Since the game to the movie is just that unbelievable BAD they have to buy the right guys for such a job. And that costs money again. A LOT. So, if they don't want to spend a huge budget for a MMORPG and create one nevertheless or give it away even for free, then the the game will be not good. I know  a lot of free MMORPGs and all I know are really bad. Full of goldseller, bots, and buyable extras that gives you an advantage against other players, and since these exist the game is not playable for a "normal" player, who just wants to experience the game, without spending extra money, or spending 3 hours just to log on, and without being spammed all the time.

In the end, there is a chance, but from my experienced point of view, it is a very little chance that there will ever be a good Avatar MMORPG. I saw how much "work" and "money" they spend in developing the game to the movie and I'm more than angry of the outcome, so I believe there won't be a good game for a long time. Maybe when the trilogy is finished an released and the fans still clung to AVATAR, maybe then, but now... I think not.

To be honest an Eldar Scrolls type of game for Avatar would be absolutely sweeeeeeeeet! Not online, but it would still be incredible, I used to spend hours on Oblivion, the world was so huge and an Avatar version would have an entire planet.

You could completely customise your character and maybe have an option to upload your photo and Na'vi-ify it.

Or instead, like the Eldar Scrolls... you always start in a prison and break out. In Avatar you could start as a human and then something happens and you get the chance to have an Avatar and you get shot out in space, and you could explore the world doing quests for the RDA, of course the main storyline would have to be to help the Na'vi, and once you are initiated you can travel to other clans and do quests for them! Or maybe you could have dual-storylines, or work undercover for both the RDA and the Na'vi without them knowing...

You could have quests to get your Ikran and to make your bow from the wood of hometree...

The possibilities are endless!

*looks at post above* That would be incredibly epic. If anybody creates that it would be the most awesome thing ever. So many possibilites....

There was someone on this server creating a MoD with a small Pandora type world, not sure how it's going at the moment. But an entire game would be awesome.

It would certainly make up for what Ubisoft did. Would be so hard to program though?

Well the Eldar Scrolls is getting one quite a bit, and thats an awesome game, I'm guessing it wouldn't be THAT hard, relatively,  to create an Avatar type game. Bethesda could do it well, as long as they got some new voice actors though!

Oh I thought people on the forum were thinking about making it. It would be so good if Bethesda made it.

Oh, well if there are some real wizz-programmers going for it... thats one hell of a task.

If Bethesda and the crew that put together Eldar Scrolls made it... I would insta-buy it! It could buy such an amazing game, I'm such a genius *cough*.

Although they need new voice actors! I think I mentioned this but it was pretty odd having the same voices in Fallout and Oblivion...
