I changed the topic title, the below comment is stated as of DragoN Age: Origins, though my opinions about DA2 are all laudatory, give or take a crafting mechanism or two....

Well.... Noone has discussed this masterpiece of a game yet.

It has kept me addicted for a week and that explains my absense from this forum (allthough, I am here at least once or twice a day).

I have almost finished the second playthrough as an elven mage. And are at level 19, which would be quite useful when porting the character over to Awakening once finished. This game has offered 40-50 hours per playthrough and that's impressive, even for the price of 50$/€.

Discuss.

Endgame rogues are pretty hilarious. Once I finished my build, I could basically oneshot most normal enemies with a 90-120 backstab :P

This is the only game in which I use a greatsword...
Good game but I found combat a little repetitive though although I didn't play it much because my brother essentially snapped the disk in half so I never really got that far...
Only mostly AWOL.

My rogue was a City Elf Rogue/Assassin-Duelist
My other character that I played through was a Human Mage/Arcane Warrior-Spirit Healer sword and board tank. Yes, this is quite possibly the first game I've ever played with a spellcaster tank. To be fair, however, the limitations of the Arcane Warrior build basically mean I run around with 6 sustained abilities on, but no mana for other spells :P

I do not use tank-ing in this game, both Vrrtep (the warden) and Morrigan has cone of cold, which is quite useful. Also Herbalism is a great way to have like 150 potions.

I chose Arcane Warrior for my elven mage because I thought I could use the spellweaver as both a sword and a magic staff......but I was wrong, it's kind of stupid when he have to put his sword on the back before doing spells like cone of cold and by the time he starts freezing them, they have spred out and the effect is minimal.

But most of the Darkspawn in the last parts of the game are one-shot kills. Mages with the fireball abillity can do quite a lot of multikilling here.

Payä Tìrol

Not the weakened darkspawn in the Denerim streets. The normal enemies that have appropriate hp for your level :P

This. Game. Is. Awesome.

My first char. was a human mage (Arcane and Spirit Healer... i think both Shapeshifter and Bloodmage are useless).
Now i play as a human rogue...
Only problem with it is that i have to divide the points between nearly everything (except of magic), so i don't have much stamina and health...

I just got Shale, and i was astonished to discover, that our favourite golem was the one to help Maric in the rebellion. (have you read The Stolen Throne? ;))

^Well...for rouges, give at least one or two points to dexility for every levelup, because that's what...well...rouges feed on. For mages strength is useless if you unlock the Arcane Warrior specialisation.

Is Alistair always that weak? he seems to fall first easily every time.

I have began my third playthrough..lol. I regret choosing that voice (or are all rogues annoying?), the main character seems to be angry for whatever I do.

I really dislike hearing that the origins will not be in DA2, and I've heard they're doing something to "mass efect"-ise the dialogue, and I thought it was perfect as it is.

I know, but rogues also need, well, every other things, except of magic... (i don't like most of the classes, because they drain stamina... and if eg. a rogue is out of it, s/he's most likely dead).
For a mage magic, willpower and constitution is more than enough (ok, with some cunning).

Alistair, if he's the only warrior of your party has a big chance of getting the attention of the enemies, so he will more likely fall first than your mage (out of the close combat), or rogue.
Besides, there's always a chance that it's just his constitution doesn't being big enough ;)

If you have the master shapeshifter talent, the bear shape can be quite powerful.

Hawnuyu atxen

True, but without the other spells... i think it's just easier to use Arcane Warrior.

If you actually pick up AW and intend to use it, you basically run around with a ton of sustained abilities on all the time. I think I had Combat Magic, Shimmering Shield, Cleansing Aura, Arcane Shield, Rock Armor, and Telekinetic Weapons :P

The only problem with that is that you probably didn't have any mana for spells.
I used those sustaineds very rarely... most times rather the spells (if the enemy has half it's hp when it reaches you... hard time for it) ;D

Yup, that's the major limiting factor for an AW. Doubly so because most casted spells will require that you sheathe your weapon before it activates. This is a design feature.

What you do is invest just enough in energy, accounting for fatigue, that so you can cast the rare spell you need. Fade Shroud basically means that the mana puddle you have left after all your sustains is generally full.
Keep in mind you're running around with Massive Armor + Rock Shield + Shimmering Shield
You've also got dodge chance from Arcane Shield, and Cleansing Aura automatically heals you :P

This is why I solve most problems with a greatsword.
None of this messing around with magic and crap...
you just go *SMACK!* and the bad guy dies which I will admit is pretty out of character for someone who usually plays as a rogue its just something that has to be done in DA.
Only mostly AWOL.

Hawnuyu atxen

I only two times used a aword in DA:O. Once to finish the dragon at the end of the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest (that finishing blow is epic), and once when i played for some time with a warrior.
Ok, i tried greatsword too, but i just don't like it... Sten and Oghren gets them, and everyone is happy :D

I tried my third playtrhough (oe leiu lekye'ung) as a rogue, it's way harder than being a mage, how I miss Cone Of Cold and stupid me forgot to choose it for Morrigan when she leveled up last time.

And the Fire Blast spell was quite useful when the dark spawn where jsut one-shot kills.

Hawnuyu atxen

Yes, the area effect spells let you loosen up a bit :D

Why didn't the released the trailer for DA2 yet? :( :'(

Dragon Age 2 Homepage. The trailer is out.
I think Bioware just showed us that if they make a good game, they can still make a better sequel to it! :D
