Lag usually isn't to bad on my desktop which is like 8 or 10 years old but when it does I suggest setting graphics to fast rather than fancy and to change the fog distance to low or tiny. Works well for me since most of my time is spent mining.

Someday it probably will end up on consoles (hopefully) but not for awhile seeing as it's still in beta.

I don't have too much of a problem with lag. Although, playing on a netbook it only runs at 15 FPS on average. When a the LPer I watch didn't like his computer dropping to 30 FPS when playing, I was saddened.

Also, Tìyawn, every time I see your avatar I think of Hinata vs God Realm Pain from the anime. That was cool. Really, when it comes to Hinata: Anime > Manga.

Well, SP is alright for me when I have my fog on, but when I go to play online from my own server or anywhere else I drops sometimes to where it says 0 gps but it's actually less than zero.

That's because the server software seems to not be able to handle many players
On the one I used to play on 4 players was little or no lag or 8 players with it still being playable.

The server I go to occasionally has 8-10 players if not more and, for the most part, it works just fine.

Well the server that I play on if i ever feel like it slows down like crazy when I join and lags other people OUT. I have no idea why my comp doesnt play it very fast. It just sucks even when I have the fog to tiny and the pixels on fast rather than fancy. Its block stuff... it should be really easy to play at a hig speed.

My netbook only has 2 gigs of RAM yet I can run both SSP and SMP with the graphics on Fast on render distance on Normal with next to no problem. Open up Windows Task Manager and check to see what else is eating up your CPU.

Mkay so I cleared out things that I didnt need to have running and the game ran a slight bit faster. But it still took forever to load the map that I was playing on. Also nobody else was in the server so it was running as fast as it could. I looked that memory usage and it read 480,000K... which I dont understand what that means BUT it was a huge amount larger than any of the other remaining programs running.

Help?

Memory usage is exactly what it sounds like. What you want to look at is the number under CPU. You probably have some processes running that are eating your CPU.

Also, what are your computer's stats?

That means ~480MB (not exactly 480MB, but close), which can be fairly typical for a large map. Performance will depend on how much memory your computer has and also on what you are running - if you have problems, close browsers as many use a lot of memory. The problem comes when there is not enough memory to keep everything in it, so memory that isn't in use gets swapped to disk, which is a few thousand times slower to access when needed than real memory.
You can also try changing to the 'fast' graphics in options and reducing your draw distance.

If it is this then I would imagine it is the fault of other programs running. If you have active scan on on your virus protection try turning it off as that REALLY slows it down on mine.

Oh, I guess they do still sell it. I'll need to be more thorough next time. Anyway, yeah, check to see if your anti-virus is actively scanning your computer. AVG did that for a bit on mine and it made browsing the Internet a pain.

Browsing the internet is easy for me. Playing SP is easy when the fog is tiny and the blocks are set to fast. When other creatures get close though it slows down some, but not enought that I just die at random.

My main ran this fine when I last played it (although that was a while ago) and my netbook runs it reasonably well (fancy graphics med view distance or fast and long) with only a small amount of lag with the occasional lag spike.

I dunno what it might be. But it is slow so I hope that it gets rewritten or whatever soon so that it will update and be faster.
