Looks like a much upgraded Wii with a fancy controller. Not sure where I really stand on it at this point.

Did anyone else here think "Wii Upgraded" when you first saw the name?

I agree on the name Wii, that its silly... in Dutch, Wii sounds exactly the same as 'wie' and wie means who in English, so there were some jokes about that here :P

Yeah, I'm not much a fan of the name either. Plus I wish it had more power. It really is just at 360/PS3 level right now. But I think theirs a ton of potential with the new controller.

controller has confirmed that they aren't aiming at hardcore gamers.

Imagine trying to use the analogue sticks in a hurry without hitting the D pad or other buttons.
Only mostly AWOL.

It comes with a normal 360/ps3 hybrid controller also.

There is a controller without a touchscreen? The one thing I'm worried about is that they will try to force meaningless functionality with the new controller, which is maybe the worst controller design I've seen so far.

It is about 2-3 times as powerful as the 360/PS3. The problem is though that most game wont take much advantage of the more powerful hardware since they will be scaled to the 360/PS3 anyway. However, the Wii U will be able to run those games in higher resolution, producing higher image quality.

Aslo, seriously, why couldn't they just have called it the Wii 2 och Wii HD? There isn't much sense behind their "We You" naming..

I haven't heard anything about a new non-touchscreen controller, but I know Wii remotes and accessories will work with it. Not sure if you'll be allowed to use them with the new games though, or if they're only for backwards-compatibility.

As for the controller design, agreed that it's horrible. One of the worst I've seen...

Well, I can't honestly say I remember them confirming that the controller they used will be for sale, but I am positive I saw a normal controller controlling a Wii U game. I'll try to find the video.

Also, where did you read the specs? I haven't read the specifics but every preview of the system I've read has said it's roughly the same power.

All rumors so far have been pointing toward that a shrunken RV770 chip will be used, and an RV770 is about 2-3 times as fast as the consoles today. About the CPU nothing is really clear, but it's rumored that it's a second generation of the Xbox 360 CPU, which should be significantly faster.

Sounds good. I have faith in Nintendo. This will likely be the first Nintendo console I've ever purchased, not including handhelds.
