Now before you try to kill me  ;D let me explain the differences. Here is a little quiz to tell if you are more of an an Avatar fan or a Na'vi fan (assuming that you are at least one of those two):

1. Which of the following would you want to get for half of your monthly income?
A: Every single AVATAR theater poster that was released
B: The exact word-for-word Na'vi script for the final theatrical release

2. If James Cameron were to hire you for AVATAR 2, what role would you more want to play?
A: Cameraman
B: Na'vi pronounciation assistant

3. Which of the following you noticed in the AvatarMeet 2012 promo video?
AvatarMeet 2012 Promo Video
A: The atokirina' in the exhibit doesn't look right
B: Somebody said "Smukan si smuke" instead of "Smukan sì smuke".

4. Suppose you have a friend who is an Avatar fan. Which will piss you off more:
A: Showing off to you a cheap Walmart AVATAR poster
B: Pronouncing "Na'vi" without the glottal stop

5. What is the biggest problem you see with AvatarForums?
A: Too many newbies there
B: Too many people not learning Na'vi

6. What will happen if you met a fan who has a "Na'vi name" called Memiteh?
A: Start RP-ing with po
B: Force po to change sneyä name

IF YOU SELECTED MORE As THAN Bs, you are an AVATAR FAN.
IF YOU SELECTED MORE Bs THAN As, you are an NA'VI FAN.

I did this because I found an inverse relationship between Avatar fandom and Na'vi learning - compare the average fantardness of LN and ToS for example!

I kinda classify people into two groups, one group for people who love the movie only and the technical stuff that goes with it like how it was made. And they other group are the people who love the na'vi themselves and every aspect of their culture and are always making terbutaline to neytiri and jake (me)

One A
Two B's
Three Neither's. Which would make me neither an AVATAR FAN nor a NA'VI FAN?   :'(

Pasha, an Avatar story, my most recent fanfic, Avatar related, now complete.

The Dragon Affair my last fanfic, non Avatar related.

Nyx

I'd say Na'vi without taking your quiz. With it, I had similar results to archaic's. Anyway, I like the movie, but what I really care about is how it was made, plus Pandora and the language. I would have loved to see just a documentary about Pandora, haha, and it's the language that keeps me coming back for more.

So, that's quite rude and insensitive to the people who put time and effort into creating the video, and are planning AvatarMeet. While I'm sure that rudeness wasn't your goal with this post, I do suggest revising your list to be less inflammatory. Irayo~

There would be a problem with anything in sight. For example, even this forum has problems.

Yup...I think we should make a lesson-by-lesson textbook (like Lesson 1. Pronounciation; Lesson 2. Simple sentences etc) for people instead of big grammar overviews like NiaN and Horen Lì'fyayä leNa'vi which would make people bored quickly.

Yawne Zize’ite

It's a lot harder than it looks. I copied the table of contents from Thorsten Renk's smash hit Pedin Edhellen: a Sindarin-Course, and the length is frightening. Now, several items in the ToC take up less than a page, Thorsten is also teaching the Elvish alphabet, and basic Sindarin grammar is both more complicated and less complete than basic Na'vi grammar, but it's still a 150-page book.

I like the basic idea of starting with pronouns and "to be", introducing inflections bit by bit, moving on to word derivation and a concluding chapter on translation issues. But equally important, in my opinion, is the "fun" factor of a continuing story (one dialogue segment per chapter) and side-notes such as how to ask directions and talk about the weather. The Prezi lessons look like a solid model, but they're presented in a most un-book-like fashion.

Unfortunately, even if I had the inclination or Na'vi skill (var nivume oe!) to do this, I've got far too much to do until next semester. Under instructor supervision, I might be able to contribute an early chapter.

Irtaviš Ačankif

I think that that ToC is more like that of Na'vi in a Nutshell. I'm thinking of a more practical-based thing starting with pronounciation and then simple greetings, fill-in-the-blank sentences, etc. Like the Spanish text I have.

I'm busy with translating NiaN into Chinese though...

Looks like more of a cross between NiAN and the Reference Grammar

But back to topic.... I scored 3 A's, 2 B's and 1 undefined. I followed the directions and selected 'Avatar fan'. But I know I am very much more a Na'vi fan. Some of the questions are hard to deal with.... like the question about working on the sequel. I would love to be a dialect coach... but I would make a far better cameraman, as I am a television engineer by trade (and occasionally run camera, but am usually doing video engineer on productions). So, I had to (reluctantly) choose cameraman. So, answering the questions honestly gave the wrong results.

It sounds like I should have posted the first chapter instead.  :-[

It is similar to Na'vi in a Nutshell in that the focus is teaching grammar, but the presentation is that of a typical modern language textbook. Each lesson has a dialogue using the upcoming lesson's grammar, various grammar points covering various parts of speech, and a wordlist to learn. Pedin Edhellen does lack exercises for the reader of any type other than "figure out what the lesson text means without looking at the translation".

So what were people actually thinking of? There's already a Na'vi exercise book, a Na'vi introductory grammar, and a Na'vi reference grammar; it seems like what is missing are structured grammar-vocab lessons.

A token nod to the topic: definitely a Na'vi fan. I came to Na'vi through general conlanging, rather than through Avatar.

Kamean

I'm definitely Na'vi fun. :)

But I love Avatar too. :D

B: Force po to change peyä name
That should be sneyä.

I guess I'm a Na'vi fan, huh? ;D

I know I'm a straight-up Na'vi fan without having to take the super-short, 6-question informal quiz you set up ;)
