Chinese Na'vi

Ok, first of all I want to say that in the title I wrote 'Chinese', but I am not sure if it's Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Mongolian...

In AVATAR, when Jakesully, Tsu'tey and two more go to the place where the Ikran are (it seems somewhere in the Hallelujah Mountains), look at them when they reach the place. Neytiri is flying in her Ikran, but focus on them. There is Tsu'tey and Jakesully. Those, we know. But there are two more guys there. Now look at them. Focus on them. One of them looks a Chinese or a Japanese Na'vi. You can see it because of the his eyes. They are definitely the eyes of a chinese or japanese guy.

So, I was wondering: how the hell is a japanese Na'vi there? As far as we know, the Omatikaya don't have any japanese ancestry, so... it's weird... at least that's what I thought...

What you're probably noticing is a minimal eyelid crease, this can be caused by all sorts of things varying from a lack of sufficient eyelid to an epicanthic fold which can in turn be caused by all sorts of things. Epicanthic folds develop on all children in the womb and then are lost in a lot of children. It's possible that the hapxì na'viyä you saw has a minor developmental abnormality resulting it not being lost (assuming similar developmental processes to humans which might not be reasonable).

That's a canonical explanation, as a RL one, it's probably that the actor playing that na'vi had a minimal eyelid crease and it was easier to map his performance onto the model if his model did too or that the animators wanted to make sure that the na'vi looked a bit like the actor playing it in which case the eyelids could be a distinguishing feature.
