Clothes and Apparel for the Na'vi

I actually have a question now , could you give me some clues on what material the Na'vi's clothes and apparel is made of ?
Like I've tried to weave elephant grass, ostrich feathers, and porcupine quils , but it just ended up making me really itchy ...

So some ideas of what to try next would be really appreciated  ...

Its just general, what do you think the Na'vi garb is made of?

I'm almost sure tha Na'vi can weave very soft fabric similar to cotton. Or canvas which is less soft but won't make you itchy. 
Also, soft leather can work. Don't you think so? 
Are you doing cosplay or just everyday clothes inspired by the Na'vi? (I'm just curious.  )

Well right now its just everyday, but Id love to crosplay in the future  ...

Also, I tried to use Elk hide but, it was too, uh... too gruesome to get ...
Im working on herb friendly clothes, so my dreams are less invaded of wild animles and birds  ... Its bad enough that I have a seven foot tall pecking ostrich in my dreams , I dont want to deal with sharp horns of an Elk  ...

Ive tried ways to strip the plants before I weave them so they are less itchy, Like uh this may sound weird but, I threaded Full grown onion stawk to make shields... They arent in any good shape but, they make me happy . I use bow dart wood as the uh well the--there is another word for rim but I dont remember what it is right now... But it outlines the designs and I use the threaded onion stawk as the filler... for more color, I set them in strawberry dye, and sometimes grape nut dye that I make myself  ...

I dont own a camera or a phone to take one with. And the computer Im on is at the local library. Ive lived with a twelve inch tv for all of my life, If I hadnt seen the AVATAR in theaters  , I dont think I would have ever gotton to see it because I dont own a dvd player either. Im technologically dud unfortunately...

I would love to take picutes of my progress! But hence I dont have the tech to do so... Im really sorry  ... uh Im just poor  ... I grow my own family crop because I dont believe in grocery stores either . Which is why I have the onion stawks ... and bow dark grows in my forest and I just pick the pinky sized growth...

The majority of their leathers, like their loincloths, are made of Sturmbeest hide. I would imagine there are also hides of Yayo (forest banshee) possibly some mountain banshee and of course yerik.

The feathers come from the helicordian plant (the ones that Jake touched and they retracted into the under ground tubes).

Neytiri's top in the scene where Jake is accepted into the clan are likely a durable plant leaf (and my favorite outfit of hers)

The one she had when she and Jake were mated and the other one from the War, I imagine are some form of bead work.

I know where the Na'vi get their materials ... but Id like examples of our kind of terra animal or growth that can be substituted... and her outfit that she is wearing for Jakes acceptance is my favorite too .

Oh yeah, no problem ! All I have to do is buy a ticket to Africa... oh yeah, that would be called poching ... No, I was thinking more towards like leafs, grass, tendings, ect...? But thats ok, Im sure I can find more things in my garden to use for sculpting clothes or shields...

Forest Banshee are called ikranay, arent they? Yayo are actually birds, although we dont see any in the film. And feathers dont grow on the helicoridian, you can see that. (sorry to be picky, but i just thought you'd made some mistakes...)


also, Neytiri's outfit when she and jake are mated is explaine as being made from dried nantang tendrils.

OT:  simple leather could work for things like sheilds or clothing. it works well if its boiled... at least,that was what they did to make armour and tougher clothes in medeival times. you can also dye leather, or paint it, so it could be easy to decorate. you can make it supple, as well, for loincloths, by making it thin and beating (possibly?) it. Leather is also easy to buy.

Personally, I'm wondering where the glass in Neytiri's visor comes from. There doesn't seem to be any volcanoes nearby, and they don't appear to have the infrastructure you'd need to make it artificially.

The E > N dictionary lists "renten" (PF) as "goggles made from insect wings, carved from wood..."  I had admittedly wondered and thought that they might be part of the back edge / tips of the main wings of an ikran.  I've been looking for the original source of this answer as well...

My theory is the transparent wing like portion of the visor is the wings of a hell fire wasp. And as far as grass goes. It is the most prevalent weed on Earth. It is in every climate and biom on our planet. So since it is such a simple plant, logic would state there would be a similar plant on any and all foreign planets we discover and perhaps someday visit.

There is grass visible on the floating mountain where the link unit is.

As for materials, leather, and probably a cotton-like one used for weaving.
