Seems like a lot of people never heard of him until Avatar. 14 votes for "No"...and one of those 14 is mine.

its strange that i watched most of his movies and didn't know he directed them. i feel ashamed for not being more involved with the genius.  :-[

I voted "no" but technically I had heard of him before I saw Avatar, but since that was because I caught some of an interview with him talking about the creation of the Na'vi language, I consider it co-related and thus not actually knowing about him "before Avatar". ;)
