It's very unlikely they can smell anything specific, as above.

H2S does have a very distinctive smell, so presumably they have less sensitive receptors for that and would only ever be able to smell it if it reached a dangerous level (much like with humans, only with humans it is a far lower concentration to reach that level), and that would be the main difference.

Yeah. Avatars would probably not smell the H₂S in the atmosphere. It would be extremely annoying to have to smell an overpowering rotten egg odor ALL DAY LONG.

I wonder though, whether the *lack* of H₂S would cause a strong perception to an Avatar. Maybe a strong smell of the opposite odor of H₂S?

I did read it somewhere, it's in the Project 880 scriptment, which isn't exactly canon.

Highly unlikely. Humans can't, for example, smell the lack of ozone or methane. They can smell it if there is MORE than usual, but not less.
