I'm sure I have posted this in the wrong section but I was wondering is Eywa only for gaia or goddess can it be used as well term meaning God or other deity? or did I just confuse everyone as much as I just did my self in asking this question?

I've used it as "god" but I don't think that's actually correct. I'll still use it as god until a better word shows up.

I would suppose that "Eywa" more accurately signifies the core (physical?) consciousness of Eywa'eveng. If we are to suppose that Eywa is a planet-shaped brain, more or less, I'm sure it's safe to assume that the Na'vi think of Her the same way, so "Eywa" could really mean a big mind.

And is you icon Mr. Bean...?

I don't believe that the Na'vi would have the idea of a "deity" as we do on Earth, seeing as they KNOW that Eywa exists, they have direct contact with her, and have no reason to ever believe in another supernatural force. Earth is very different in that we have a wide variety of religions, each with their own plethora of god(dess)((e)s), and we have absolutely zero proof that any of them are true, at least not in the way the Na'vi do.

To be a bit sarcastic..."You'd know that if you had any training whatsoever."  (Norm FTW)

But yeah...basically, Eywa IS Eywa. There's no other way to put it.

So basically, we're thinking Eywa is a proper name, and not just the Na'vi word for "god"?

Hmmm, not necessarily. Eywa is more properly the word for "God" with a capital G, and (we can only assume) they don't have a word for "god" with a lower-case g. Since they don't have any other "gods" or "Gods", it probably hasn't crossed their minds.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge of Islam can elaborate on this point, becuase I believe the term "Allah" is similar, but I am in no way an expert on theology.

I considered that, but if there's no word for "god" (lower case), how is interpreting Eywa as meaning "God" (upper case) any different from just calling it a proper name? Either way, we can't use it to refer to any human god.

I was under the impression its how they saw it , i was just wondtering if using the word in the poem my wife asked me to write her while we are seperattd.

now so many ansewered and helped me who do i kamal?

Txur’Itan

There is not a Na'vi word for diety (Generic English word for lowercase god).

Eywa can be used as an approximation for the time being, or the nìInglìsìnìArapxiknìHawng words can be phonetically converted, but it is a proper noun for a being that Na'vi commune with on Eywa'eveng.
