I was surprised by how much of the new footage I liked. I really liked most of the new footage in the "Special Edition".

However, I can see why it was cut. The sturmbeast hunt scene is the perfect example. The scene, in and of itself, is pretty sweet. But it kind of pulls us out of the narrative. Here we have this wonderful scene/montage of Jake taking his first flight -- that's our high point of the story, and from there the story needs to progress to what comes next. For me, it's perfect for Jake's first flight to be followed by Neytiri telling him about the legend of Toruk Makto, and then Quaritch comes knocking to remind Jake of what he was brought here for. The sturmbeast scene, as awesome as it is, does not move the greater story forward, and I think Cameron made the correct decision cutting it from the original theatrical release.

The one exception, in my opinion, is the early scene in Dr. Grace's schoolhouse. I really liked that scene, and I think it should have been in the original theatrical release.
hmm, I think it makes sense to be in there, as it shows Jake participating as a full member of the clan  :)

I definitely agree! Plus...come on! How priceless is it to hear Neytiri scream HELL YEAH?

Jake and Neytiri's love scene... so beautiful, and really makes me wish I was Jake there... :'(

Agreed and I know what you mean! I will translate a line in my signature: "Ke tsun oe pivlltxe nìkeyawr, Neytiri leiu NÌTxAN sevin!" means "I can't speak incorrectly (lie), Neytiri is VERY beautiful!"

Tsu'teyä death scene should have been included in the original footage, too, for similar reasons (adds something that's worth it).

No matter how much I think about it, I still have to say my favourite new scene is Jake sitting and actually eating, and Neytiri introducing herself.  It's just such a wonderfully full scene, and the little girl reminds me of a character I made, which I love. :D

I cried. But I'm not a guy. :D It was impossible not to.....and it felt good to cry, like holding back tears would just make my throat ache unnecessarily. What I loved that the theater was so incredibly quiet the whole time, there were a few chuckles but all the people were reverently silent. :)

I'm a guy and I had tears streaming down my cheeks through most of the movie. During the mating scene (cuz how incredibly beautiful it was), the scenes where Neytiri pushes Jake away, the destruction of Hometree, when Grace and Trudy died, when Jake (and Neytiri) almost die, and ESPECIALLY when Tsu'tey died. Oh man, was such a powerful scene. I had to hold back from audibly sobbing. I'm glad no one was right next to me.

How could I forget that scene?  That's another memorable one considering Jakesully's mispronunciation of the tapped r.

Personally I just love how damned fast she says her name the first time, and the stunned look on Jake's face. ;D ;D ;D

IIRC Cameron said there will be an even longer version on DVD/BD only, and the SE wouldn't be on these formats.

I loved it all, can't wait for the extra 16 minutes of footage in the Special Edition DVD and the 45 minutes of deleted scenes!! :D

Also, the tear the Neytiri sheds at the end
was genuine, Zoe Saldana actually shed it in the Motion Capture suit, they layered the CGI (or whatever, i'm not too sure on the process) and then put the tear back on over Neytiri's eyes. Now THAT is acting.

This is also true, I loved that bit... Also shows us a bit more of Neytiri's personality, a playful side in a way ;D

I think that scene is my second favourite, after the love scene...

From what I've heard, the bluray special edition will have the rerelease version as well as the original, in addition to another 45 min or so of extras, which won't be finished to the same quality.

The Special Edition DVD will have the Theatrical Release and the Special Edition Release and the Extended Edition Release, I'm not sure whether you'll be able to watch them all separately though, maybe there is only one extended version... but there is an extra 16 minutes of footage added on to the theatrical release and over 45 minutes of deleted scenes.

No doubt there will be another good hour or so of The Making Of... or something.

Just got back form seeing it.  O.M.G.  I freakin love this movie.  unlike some of you, I really hated the part where neytiri shouted "hell yea"  I just think it was way out of character for her.  everything else though i just loved.

I don't think I've been in this part to say the favorite "new" scene.

Honestly, I just have to say all of them, because most, of not all, of the new scenes explain a lot more of the story.

If i had to pick my fave scene of added time, it would probably be when jake first comes to hometree and they are having the dinner.  you know, with the little na'vi girl and neytiri saying her full name.

yeah, that was a great scene.  Shows that even Na'vi 'eveng are as curious as anyone.  And of course, continued evidence that Neytiri wasn't keen to teaching Jake.

I like that scene, but it's definitely not my favorite because to me, it isn't beautiful....and the pretty stuff matters a lot to me. :D Which is why scenes like the sturmbeest hunt and the schoolhouse appeals to me more.

Eyamsiyu

I just like how in the school-house scene there was "The Lorax."
