I have a general question which I think of, fairly frequently. How tall are Na'vi?

I know that Adults sometimes vary from either 8-10 feet. I am not sure if that is properly correct, but it is something similar to that.

But, I am not necessarily here to ask a question regarding Adult height. I am here to ask about other heights.

Eg.How tall would a Child around 10 be?

I thought someone around the age of 10 would be something similar to either, 5 feet or possibly 6 feet. However, it makes me actually wonder if they are taller or smaller? If you think about it, the average height for a Human male is 5.10-6.2. Now, that would be what I thought the average height for a Child would be.

But, in saying this, a Human child doesn't have to grow from 2 feet to 6 feet do they? So why would it be 6 feet? And then I realised something. Na'vi are (technically) double the height of Humans. (If they were to be things like, the same age and other things like that)

So, this means that if Na'vi have to grow 4 feet, it means that Children that happen to be Human only have to grow 2 feet. (because Human's are half of the height of Na'vi).

This is just something I am confused about.

But now, Babies. This is kind of a silly question, but what would their height be? I mean, Babies when born are commonly around 1 foot. That is essentially dividing 4 feet by 4. (Seen as it is divisible, it'd work). But this is where I get confused. Would babies be 2 feet if they were to be Na'vi? Or would they be something like 3-4 feet? This really gets me confused. Or, finally, would they be 1 foot but grow faster, then when at a certain height/age they would grow, somewhat to the equivalent of Humans. For example, if Humans were to grow 1 foot a year, would they grow 2 feet a year once reached the age that would deem them to be at a somewhat of a similar growing speed as Humans.

Please help me with this subject.

Well, we do know the height of the average Na'vi male and female.

Quote from: Pandorapedia.comNa'vi vary in size, by region and genetic history. Maximum recorded height is 3.9 meters, with a mass of 290 kg, for a Na'vi male. Adult Na'vi males in the region of Australis surrounding Hell's Gate, average 3 meters in height and 210 kg. Females in this region average 2.8 meters/190 kg.

Source

So, it's more or less math / guessing how tall babies, children and youngsters would be.

We also do know the following:
Quote from: Pandorapedia.comData on lifespan is incomplete. It is generally accepted to be longer than human by approximately 30%, but the rate of maturation is more rapid followed by a plateau of adulthood without physical decline.

Source

So, babies, children, and youngsters grow fast until they reach adulthood.

My brain is only used to the metric system, so it kinda went blank when reading about feet hrh.

Edit:

Ok, I tried to do some math, which I'm not good at, but yeah. If you find any mistakes, pls correct them.

I took the data from Wikipedia and calculated the average male human height.
The intersection of those 178 numbers is rounded 172cm / 67,7 inches or 5,6 feet.

According to this source the average height of
male human babies at birth is (rounded) 50cm, or 19,6 inches, wich is 29% of those average 172cm.
6-month-old: 26,6 inches or 67,5cm, so 39%.
12-month-old: 29,8 inches or 75,7cm. 44%
2-year-old: 34,2 inches or 86,8cm. 50%.
3-year-old: 37,5 inches or 95,2cm. 55%.
5-year-old: 43,0 inches or  3,58 feet or 109,2cm. 63%.
10-year-old: 54,5 inches or 4,54 feet or 138,4cm. 80%.
15-year-old: 67,0 inches or 5,58 feet or 170,1cm. 98%.

According to Pandorapedia, let's assume that Na'vi are more or less fully grown at around 15 years old.
So... let's take these human numbers and apply them to the average Na'vi (Omatikaya) male height of 300cm or 3m (118,11 inches or 9,8 feet).

A male Na'vi baby at birth would be 87cm or 34,25 inches or 2,6 feet (29% of 3m)
6-month-old: 117cm or 1,17m or 46 inches or 3,8 feet (39% of 3m)
12-month-old: 132cm or 1,32m or 51,96 inches or 4,3 feet (44% of 3m)
2-year-old: 150cm or 1,50m or 59 inches or 4,9 feet (50% of 3m)
3-year-old: 165cm or 1,65m or 64,96 inches or 5,4 feet (55% of 3m)
5-year-old: 189cm or 1,89m or 74,4 inches or 6,2 feet (63% of 3m)
10-year-old: 240cm or 2,4m or 94,48 inches or 7,9 feet (80% of 3m)
15-year-old: 294cm or 2,94m or 115,74 inches or 9,6 feet (98% of 3m)

So a 3 year old Na'vi would already be the same height as me (I'm 1,65m "tall") hrh ...  :o

I was really wrong then  ;D .

Thanks for clearing that up!

Strictly speaking this is Cameronian territory.
However, Eana Unil's reply looks like a very good educated guess based on the information available presently.

WOU this is interesting ...my guess was a adult Na'vi being 9'7" and I talked it over with my Dad and my Dad is 6'2" so my guess is that a seven year old Na'vi might be 5 to 6 feet I'm guessing ...Naytxoa I'm just going by what I'm learning cuz there's not very many articles on Na'vi younglings however there is ONE that goes into Na'vi pregnancy it's called Avatar initium wiki and it digs deep into Na'vi pregnancy  http://avatarinitium.wikia.com/wiki/Na%27vi_Sexuality

but it sadly doesn't discuss older Na'vi younglings too much but based on this article the Na'vi female will be pregnant for 8-8.5 months however I do have one question ....I seen pics and deleted scenes of infant Na'vi and somehow they can balance their head, not sure how though

I managed to look up Na'vi children as well and found this picture it's basically a Na'vi mother and her child and based on this the kid might be a foot in a half tail ...not too sure but this is just my theory.

I wouldn't trust unofficial sources for information, rather rely on the official canon ones we have, such as Pandorapedia, ASG etc.

Well, Na'vi are humanoid, doesn't mean that their development and biology is comparable our human one. So, Na'vi babies being able to balance their head on their own from a certain (very young age, at least younger than human babies at that point) wouldn't surprise me at all. Yet, there's still so much we don't know and so many questions that need answers.

Since the next movie(s) will feature a lot of Na'vi children (and human children growing up with them, offspring of those humans that were allowed to stay on Pandora after the RDA has been banished back to Earth) we hopefully will have more data to learn and compare.

This is a picture (one of the pics on the fridge in Site 26) of Grace and what I believe are Sylwanin and Neytiri to the right of her. Anyone know the approximate age of Sylwanin and Neytiri in this pic?

In this picture where Neytiri, Sylwanin and Grace was at school.... Neytiri, i think, she was 16 years old and her sister, Sylwanin around of 18 years old! Anywhere, Sylwanin is the big sister of Neytiri! ;)

I assume this particular picture was taken just before the RDA massacre at the school, when Sylwanin was killed. That makes sense as that happened two years before Jake and Norm arrived to Pandora, and, from what I've read, Neytiri was 18 when they arrived. It was a sad situation, but, it explains why the school closed. I am glad it was added to the Extended Collector's Edition, as it deepens Neytiri's and Grace's characters.

I agree. I wish they put more background information about Neytiri's past into the film. I would have really enjoyed it, but I understand that they can only have so many scenes in a film. They didn't want a 3 hour film.

Srane! I know the scene! I mean i read about what has happened at Grace's School before RDA to shut them! Sylwanin was killed in front of Neytiri... which is so sad! School was closed in 2152!
Neytiri and Grace relationship was very close and strong! I know from Grace -> "They called me Sa'nok!"
