its hard to believe that a movie can have a suicidal effect on us. i mean, i knew it was going to be a great movie, but i wasn't prepared for something of that magnitude. it should get an award for: leading cause of depression

Hufwe Makto

I like that. I don't think they would give an award for something negative, though.

Txur Txe’lan

if everyone felt that extreme emotion we felt at the end, them maybe. but your right. most people suppress those types of emotions. it would be uncalled for and people would bash the award givers.

Most people probably deny the fact alltogether. People should not be ashamed by the fact that the movie was/is epic and makes them realize how f***ed our planet is. That's actually good. It makes people more aware of the planet and try to be more self aware of the consequences of their actions. I accually turned something close to hippy during the week after I wached it. I just didn't smoke weed lol.

our planed is just a huge hellhole. sure their are some good things in but most of it sucks when you look at the planet as a whole. Pandora was such a beautiful planet; untouched by mankind; where everything was connected. Earth was like that at one point. 100% natural earth, full of jungles, forests and rivers, just like Pandora. no, it wasn't as "Magical" as in the movie but similar. Thats one of the things i loved so much about the movie. just going back to the roots of the planet, literally. Most people aren't making this connection, which is rather upsetting.

Hufwe Makto

I made the connection almost instantly. And the beauty of pandora is also a cause of depression. It shows people what has been and what we destroyed. By we I mean our forefathers.

A movie has never made me cry before, and i was so close to crying when the home tree was destroyed. i had never hated humanity so much than in that moment. i cant describe how upset i was about that. the only reason i didn't cry was because i would of had to take off my 3D glasses and i would have missed the next few minutes of the movie so i could pull myself together.

While watching Avatar, particularly in the scenes in the jungle at night, I actually forgot I was even watching a movie. It was all so masterfully crafted that it felt almost more real and engrossing than reality. Now that isn't to say that afterwards I felt depressed. Overwhelmed, sure. The movie was more inspiring than anything, and I wanted to figure out everything I could about Pandora and the Na'vi. But I can understand how the sheer scale of the Avatar universe could mess with people.

watching it in 3D and having all that immersion into the movie is so..., i cant think of a word for it. its amazingly beautiful but at the same time none of it is real. you feel like your standing right their on Pandora and then those credits roll and that realization hits you. you can never live their life on their planet. we are stuck here on this industrial planet.

I felt really depressed after watching Avatar as well.  It just seems so perfect and fantastic that you find it hard to live with our planet...

After some experimenting though, the thing that i found helped alot was downloading the soundtrack and listening to it over and over again...also getting involved in learnnavi.org;D

That is, unfortunately, not dealing with the underlying problem. It's simply running away from it.

To me, learning Na'vi is more that just redirecting the emotional backwash from the film. It is honoring the creators of Avatar - all of them. Besides, if somebody is going to die after watching this film, here's hoping it is due to natural causes.  ;)

true, but if your at a point where your ready to kill yourself, a quick pick-me-up like that would save your life. i just got the soundtrack today. god i wish i had it when i first saw the movie.

It can almost be likened to a rather addictive drug, and withdrawals from said drug.

if you've ever had a moment where you were seriously depressed, you would know how listening to the soundtrack would help you. because i don't have good medical insurance, i rely on little things like that to keep me going. now your right, it can be like a drug... kinda... not really, but i see what your getting at... i think. i confused myself now. elaborate on your drug theory there so i have a better understanding.

What makes me more angry and sad than anything is that people are getting depressed because they can't go to a place like Pandora, completely forgetting that we have places just as beautiful on planet Earth. Sure we don't have floating mountains, but we have plenty of places that will simply take your breath away.

This movie shouldn't depress you. It should inspire you to travel. See the world, take all the beauty and different cultures we have, and hopeful join the movements to protect it.

Funny, I said only 38 seconds ago on IRC this would happen, and look, I was right.

Along with the wide-spread depression the movie is causing, that'll eventually lead to some suicides aswell.

As far as I'm concerned, it has to be the greatest award any movie could obtain, "It's so good, it kills."

agreed

give it awhile to settle at the very least

Avatar didn't really depress me or make me sad... more so interested and curious at this new world, i wish i could go to pandora or a form of it and i understand there are places like it on earth

BUT

then we have the problem. of humanity destroying nature daily...we have our own personal pandora, but not much of it is left to enjoy  :(
