Quote(CBS)   Here's one tagline the blockbuster film "Avatar" probably doesn't want: It's so good it might kill you.

A 42-year-old Taiwanese man with a history of high blood pressure apparently died from a stroke while watching the film, Agence France Presse reported.

The reportedly felt ill while watching the film earlier this month, then headed to the hospital. When he arrived at the emergency room, he was unconscious, a doctors told AFP.

The man died 11 days later.

"It's likely that the over-excitement from watching the movie triggered his symptoms," Dr. Peng Chin-chih told AFP.

Funny, I said only 38 seconds ago on IRC this would happen, and look, I was right.

Along with the wide-spread depression the movie is causing, that'll eventually lead to some suicides aswell.

As far as I'm concerned, it has to be the greatest award any movie could obtain, "It's so good, it kills."

Well in this case you can't reeeeally blame the man. I hardly doubt he walked into the film thinking "oh god got to remember to keep that heart rate down! Movies are totally so good they kill." He probably didn't think it was possible for him to get that excited from a movie.

Now when the suicides start happening we can facepalm.

I agree. News always disfigures (or I don't know how to say) the reality and I'm very angry because it is just to write something wrong about Avatar.  :-[ Everyone knows that it wasn't a suicide, the man's death wasn't caused by the Avatar, it could happen while watching any other movie that is exciting (of course Avatar is the best  :)).

I knew that people suicides because oh the knowledge thet humans will never be "connected" to earth like na'vi people. I think taht, if you really want to suicide for that reason, you might have to did it years ago...

I sad this in the other news thread, but I'll say it again. People who want to kill themselves over Avatar we're clearly depressed long before watching the movie and need to seek professional help. Depression is a serious issue and isn't one you should deal with by yourself.

I have clinical depression and can't do too much about it as I don't have any sort of health coverage and I'm alarmingly poor.  Interestingly, my depression is largely gone after having seen the movie.

I'm sorry. I know not everyone can seek actual professional help. I'm glad this movie made you feel better. The point that I was trying to make is that the media shouldn't blame the movie Avatar for making people depressed since it was probably there for a long time.

i also have clinical depression and don't have any health coverage to help with it. i can also say that the movie didn't put me into a deeper depression. movies that are this good usually inspire me

jeez, poor guy

i guess on the bright side he died watching the best thing in his life?

Ok to soon to soon... lol

Coincidence.  :-[

Over-excitement would have been caused by anything else - he sees an accident on the street or something like that.
The main point is that it wasn't a suicide and it's not the movie that is responsible for his death.

Oh yeah.  Depression isn't sudden, and suicide sure as hell isn't when it stems from clinical depression.  It's more like the straw the broke the camels back after quite a bit of though on the topic.

For those who are struggling with depression, if you live in an area with a college or university that have a psychology or counseling program, they will often have a clinic where senior students will counsel for a very nominal fee. If anyone would like me to look up resources for them or help them find a free (or almost free) source of help please Pm me.  ;)

I got over my depression. But that guy was probably already on deaths row. Well I think we're either going to see a mass suicide or a movement towards green technology that actually brings result... Both of which are very shocking.

Txur Txe’lan

unfortunately, and i hate to say it, i think its going to be the mass suicide... i know how a depressed person thinks and  i don't see many good scenarios

Hufwe Makto

Yeah. I was thinking the same. The one week or so I was depressed, I kinda just sat around and looked at the sky, hoping our true brothers are out there somewhere and hoped we would discover them. Ok I'm off to voulunteer to dig mass graves. Later. (god my sense of humor is evil...) SERIOUSLY DONT KILL YOURSELF... YET. Take your worst enemy with you. I got a special on C4... 5 pounds for 20 bucks.

Txur Txe’lan

ill be honest.  as soon as i finished watching avatar for the first time i became extremely depressed. it was such an amazing movie that you wanted it to be real so bad, but you know it couldn't. im pretty sure everyone felt this way after seeing it, but as a depressed person, that emotion is overwhelming and can easily lead to a suicide. luckily for me i was able to control my suicidal thoughts and evil ideology long enough for the emotion to pass but i fear that people with less control can easily fall victim to this.

Hufwe Makto

Yup I felt exacly like that. And honestly I wished I wasn't alive durnig the highest point of my ordeal. I don't have to tell you that that feeling sucks beyond words can tell. And if the feeling in some people are higher, I can see a mass suicide. There should be an award for that: most deaths caused due to suicide.
