Txantsan! :)
Did you notice she does not even look at the string to put the arrow on?

I found out how she can do that: there is a mark (a little indentation) on the end of the arrow, which she feels. If the mark is on her thumb, the arrow is aligned perfectly for putting it on the string! So clever and simple!

Mastery is based on the details. :)

Txantsan! ;D

I wonder what her accuracy is like doing that.

Most arrows have that.

I am not sure. Lots of arrows hit. And at that speed, if only half of them hit, I'd still prefer to be with her than against her!

Could be. I don't remember. I was with an archery club once, but that is loooong time ago.

Called "nock", and necessary for the arrow to be placed accurately on the string.

Her movements seem to lack any heavy effort, so her bow is supposingly not a very strong one, but definitey quite fast. (I'm not an expert though, so I might be wrong.) Anyway the video is very impressive and spectacular! I love watching it! (Shared it on my archery club's facebook site.)

Kehe, ke lu nock. The nock is what keeps the arrow on the string. (I have a bow and arrows too ;) )
It is a slight indent in the end of the arrow. Let me try to draw it:

------[feather]--\_/--]nock
------[feather]-------]

<- the tip of the arrow is that way, and the blue bit is the indent I mean. It is a little spot just after the feather.

Just shoot Apaches. They also used rather weak bows, which helped him shoot like a machine gun. :)

Ever so true. I could never shoot that fast with my hand-made longbow. Its pull is far too heavy for that.

Wait, did I see that someone made a hand-made longbow? Teach me? HRH, I really want a bow and I really want to be able to shoot it like the Na'vi.  ;D

I had a teacher myself, and it was for only 1 bow. I'm glad I did it, it's a very special experience to make your own working bow, and shoot with it (and yes, Na'vi style!).
I hope you can find someone who can help you, ma 'ewana 'eylan.

Irayo ma Puvomun, I hope that I can find a teacher that's willing to help me learn how to make one out of experience. Would you say that it's complicated? I like to work with complicated things. It'd also be cool to make my own arrows for it. This is making me want a bow even more, HRH. :)

The Olde Englishmen used YEW for the wood.
The Cherokkee Indians use ash.
What wood did you use?

Once Brie showed up on the rez to visit her Uncle, and they went hunting.  Brie had just bought a recurve bow qith all the pulleys on it.  Her Uncle had a laughing fit and asked if thelittle wheels were there so that she could wheel the deer home.  The uncle sent one of her cousins to bring her a traditional ash bow, rther than be embarrassed by her silly looking bow.  Sabrina proved that she culd still use the ash bow by shooting down the first deer. She had the last laugh!

It is not complicated in the amount of things you need, but it is quite a lot of work to get the bow made right, the notches for the string set correctly, and to get the balance for the curving correctly. The bow has to pull the string equally strong from both ends, otherwise your arrows will fly anywhere.
I think you will like it. And making your own arrows is fascinating. A friend of mine, who is also on this forum, makes them. :)

My bow is ash as well. It feels nice and shoot very well. I am surprised about the distance I can do with it and still be fairly accurate (not many options to practice when the weather goes bad, alas).

Nice story of Bri, too! :D
