Merging Media Conference 2013 - Lightstorm's Take on Fans

Just wanted to share this with you. Late last year there was a Merging Media conference in Vancouver at which Kathy Franklin gave a keynote speech related to engaging with the fans of Avatar.

Whilst it is aimed at other media professionals and how they engage with their related fan groups, you will see how much Lightstorm value us fans. You might also see some people you know.

@ Plumps - No worries. I thought it would be of interest to know how much Lightstorm think of us all. Yeah, I think Talis will be over the moon to know he has been played to a live audience in Canada!

@ Tìtstewan - Irayo. It is good to have this level of engagement - close, but not too close to spoil the 'raising of the curtain'.

EDIT: I just visited avatar.com and found a threadbare, horribly out-of-date site. The dictionary on their 'Pandorapedia' site still has tsaheylu spelled '*tsahaylu'.

Oh wow, I had forgotten about that parody film. That brings back memories, there were some good parodies back in the day.

Great find Alan; I guess you can tell Kathy her marketing is working because Avatar fans are watching keynote presentations about the film. :p I couldn't seem to comment on the video, though. How hilarious would it be to flood that video with LearnNavi and Tree of Souls fans?

As for the website, I wonder if it would be kosher to have a link on Avatar.com directly to the LN.org Na'vi dictionary?

Glad you liked the video. It's great that there is that mutual appreciation and respect between the fans and Lightstorm. I hope it continues.

I remember the parody. There were a shed load of fan films made from footage of the film edited to music.

As for the website, I'm not sure what is planned, but I just wish they had, like, a fan section which was basically a hub for links to the various fan sites. It could be like a 'Tree of Voices' thing where you could 'tsaheylu' to the different forums. It could also like to other aspects like the language, i.e. Naviteri.org, and other sites such as the Euro Avatar and AvatarMeet. Plus what ever they have in other countries or regions. It would be a great way of bringing the world fan community together like a load of clans that came together. All links and ties in with the film and has the potential to expand. I mean, there's 10¹² tree on Pandora!

I am thinking the world premeire will be a likely spot for many of us to gather together. There has also been talk of doing this in Las Vegas, as that seems to be an easy place for everyone to travel to. (Reno has an IMAX theater now, and a gathering would work well here!) And of course, not long after the world premeire, the World of Pandora will be opening in Disneyworld. That, too is another potential gathering point, and may be more enjoyable than being at the world premeire.

I guess time will tell where the premiere will be held. What would be really cool is if they set up a second cinema for us fans to watch it at the same time. That would be so amazing. I'm sure they will let us know so we can plan something in good time.

Not every member on this forum would find it easy to travel to Las Vegas.
While I can imagine how difficult it would be to organize, a simultaneous multi venue premier would be kinda cool.
Admittedly, part of me feels they should premier Avatar 2 on the same screen as Avatar 1, in London, England.
That having been said, an IMAX premier would be very cool too.

Unless we were lucky enough to be able to do the world premier (either in the US or the UK/Europe, depending on where folks live), I can't imagine not doing this at an IMAX theater somewhere.

As for Las Vegas, I don't know what your situation is, ma Archaic. A visit to Las Vegas does not have to involve casinos and over-the-top activities. The vast majority of Las Vegas is just like any other town. Reno is even more so, in that our entire 'strip' would fit on two Las Vegas properties. Reno also has a much more diverse economy than Las Vegas, and there is a lot of outdoor/natural beauty activities just a few minutes drive outside of town.
