My guess is that only a handful of people/scientists stayed. To quote the movie (or screen play I can't remember):
"Few chose to stay. Fewer were chosen."

I agree.  They where getting paid and that's what mattered.  Besides, don't you think Eywa would be a little picky as to who would be aloud to become Na'vi?  She wouldn't just let anybody in.

On Topic: Norman, if he had a choice between staying human, repairing his AVTR, or getting a new one, but it not having fully grown up yet, which would you think he'd choose?

i think he will probably stay as a human because he doesn't strike me as one who would like to stay as an avatar
(also i be he plays computer games... )

My guess would be to help repair his Avatar (even if it meant he had to be in pain to be in the body) rather then wait the 6 years for it to mature

I agree.  Norm wouldn't want to wait for a whole other avatar body to grow; he'd want to join the Omatikaya as soon as possible.
