I choose pa'li because my favorite earth animal is horses and it would be amazing to ride a pa'li  :o

I have to admit, a palulukan would be interesting to ride.  Although it wouldn't "play" well with anyone or anything else...

Evented horses in my youth and college.  I'd be likely the one trying to teach a pa'li to do 6 legged piaffes, passages and half-passes.
Literally, "srew pa'lihu"...

But I'd transition and choose an ikran (or technically have him choose me...)  even though more work and more responsibility to maintain.
What a combination and gift to be able to bond with a creature and become a team, free to explore the skies and hunt from above.
(Not to mention, I think an ikran is a little safer to feed than a palulukan...)

IKRAN - because I want to fly and free myself.   :)

I voted for ikran. Palulukan is not typical creature used for transport (there was only such usage in the movie - in war Na'vi against sawtute palulukan on its own will offered ride to Neytiri). I'm in doubts it is possible ride palulukan in normal circumstances.
Pa'li is of course good choice, as some people can ride horse, so it is something similar.
But flying (without plane) is something great and thrilling - I'd like to try it at least once.

Not Paluluakan, it eats meet, I would never be able to leave it near anyones' fali.
Not Ikran. Heights, not good. Flying, not that great either.
Therefore Pali.

Ìì, are there Pali ponies?

I originally voted for Ikran, as that and paʼli were the only choices then. My real choice, of course would be palulukan. Can I change my vote?

If Numeyu92 will check the "allow user to change vote" box in the poll setup...  ;)

This is (in a way) possible on earth if I remember me I've posted a thread about an Ikran plane *ckick* :)

Nightfury in an exopack?
Would an Avatar be too big to ride a nightfury?  :P

archaic

Wing span's slightly longer than an Ikran, wing area is in a similar ballpark, tail and neck are shorter.

Nightfury looks bulkier in the body, and from the way it behaves it is obviously more robust, therefore it will be heavier. Toothless had no problem carrying Stoic the Vast in the movie.

Pandora has lower gravity than Earth, therefore a Nightfury will be correspondingly lighter and will have greater carrying capacity.
I think, but I'm not sure, the greater air density on Pandora also would give greater lift, further increasing carrying capacity.

Correct!  A Nightfury has more mass than an ikran (irrelevant to gravity) so more force/energy is needed to move.  But compared to "Earth", Pandora has 20% less gravity AND 10% higher surface pressure, both will permit increased carrying capacity.  The only slight "performance reduction could be forward speed due to the 20% higher air density, but it's really not that much of a difference at such slow speeds.

What's really interesting with the quad wing design of ikrans and toruks, is their evolutionary "designed" ability to glide efficiently using thermals (air updrafts) to their advantage.

Something the Nightfury shares with them.
They both have one too many digits in their wing.
Something I wrote a while back .....

"I have four fingers on each hand, four toes on each foot. If you count, this is normal for most species on this world. Humans and Avatars have five
[snip]
Toothless has six digits in each wing." pointed out Hiccup, teasing out one wing of his Nightfury.
"I do not know what is normal for dragons, but if you count, Ikran has one extra digit in it's wing, so do Toruk and Riti and many others." expanded Neytiri.

There is also a 'Toruk' aircraft I see every year at the Reno air races. Its a Czech L-39 jet painted in Toruk colors. It is owned by former astronaut Hoot Gibson. And he races it.

Despite ny preference for a Palulukan over an Ikran, if offered a Toruk, I would definitely think about that instead...
