I wish something remotely interesting in a lighting-striking-something-anecdotal sort of way.

It would liven up the area to be honest... when someone's house was on fire in my street, everyone went out to do nothing but watch it burn, watch the Fire service trying to put it out and make snide comments at how they were failing.

I think that had more to do with Arson than Divine Intervention though  :D

the most exciting thing near me that has ever happened is the cat went missing for a couple of days
Only mostly AWOL.

Most exciting thing to happen near me? Largest explosion in peacetime Europe. Happened 12 km (7.5 miles) away from where I now live but I used to live within a mile or two of it in the same town, still felt it here though. An oil depot blew up, luckily no-one was badly injured because it happened before people had gone to work.

Germans bombed our village during WWII (presumably they were aiming to hit the nearby town but failed miserably)

And also, fair point for being labelled by what you do believe rather than by what you don't - however, as atheist doesn't really have (m)any negative connotations here in the UK, I'll stick with that if you don't mind, easier to say as well :P

Not completely related, but not completely off-topic, there is a song lyric I apply to religion

"I can't believe in anything that doesn't believe in me"
Hahaha! That really is a good one. I don't know the lyrics, though, so no kudos for me. (What's the song called?)

Thor was getting annoyed that no one was taking him seriously anymore, and was going to blast someone, but Zeus nudged him, so he hit the statue instead.  ;D

HRH! I once was with a group of German pagans, and it started raining as we were going out. One of the women shook her fist at the sky and yelled: "Damn you Thor, get your children under control, we're going out!" 2 minutes later it stopped raining. :D

No, it can be a little...intense...at points. Most people don't like it. I completely understand

Wow. That might almost trump the solid rocket fuel plant that blew up in Nevada. Turns out high quantities of sodium perchlorate(and a few other chemicals) are highly explosive....

That video...wow. I've seen a LOT of videos of various things exploding (tanker trucks, other chemical plants, fireworks factories, oil rigs...) but that one's the biggest explosion I've seen.

I know I wouldn't want to be the guy in that car on the highway...

If you want something that relates to our destruction of the earth, go to the band Disturbed's website and they have a single release of one of their songs for the next album. Its lighter and in a different style than they normally do. Link below:

Painful to watch, but it is not something to be ignored. Let's just hope and pray that we're not too late yet. And that some crucial players in this game get their senses back before we reached that point...

John Denver, if any of you know who that is, was a really inspirational singer when it came to environmental topics. Look him up.

He was, unfortunately, and yes, I know who he was. I have about 7 CD's of his music and I know quite some of the songs by heart.
Calypso and Annie's Song almost always makes me teary-eyed.

It was quite a bad day for me to hear he crashed with his plane.

(I betray my age here, I am sure ;) )
