Thats likely. That it has the ability to choose who rides it tells me it has a sense of recognition.

I would indeed think so, yes. After all, it will try to kill you when you choose it, and that means something. Especially when you survive it. That means there is something that literally binds you.

It seems that the Ikran develops a sense of respect for its rider if he manages to catch it. Its kind of a "Huh, I didn't kill you, I guess I'll give you some respect."

That's exactly what I thought of the whole Ikran bonding sequence. To me, Tsaheylu seems to be like the rider giving a "compulsion" rather than an order. The bond itself, at least with Ikran and Toruk, seems to be one of mutual respect.
