Please tell me if you see mistakes in a Na'vi post of mine. It's the only way I'll learn. :P

Ayoe nantang, have fingers and semi opposable thumbs, we have something much more akin to a fingernail than a true claw, but they can still give a good scratch.

The configuration is:- Thumb, two longer fingers in the middle, and a little finger opposite (and only slightly longer than) the thumb.

Quaritch's scars look as if three parallel sharp points made them. A rake is just possible, but not Nantang hand.

However, it could be from a Nantang hind foot. The two center toes are fused together, the nails are closer to parallel. It would mean that this wound, was made by a defensive or escape movement rather than an attacking strike.
Verdict:-
Some poor innocent unknown Nantang was viciously attacked by a savage tawtute. In an attempt to either flee from, or defend itself, or others, it kicked out with a hind leg. For a fight to take place rather than this peaceful creatures normal self preservation instinct to escape, the attack must have been sudden and unexpected, the creature was cornered, or was protecting another, (possibly it's young), or some combination of these.

Edit:- Looking at the scars again ..... I think it was made by an escaping Nantang, hind foot striking his head as it leapt over his shoulder. The abrupt kink would be caused by the Expoack shifting, then catching, maybe the straps came to their full stretch. The foot then deflected down along the edge of the face mask.

hmmmm but what position could a Nantang be in to kick like that.... unless Quaritch had like picked it up or something

I don't know... the nantang seemed pretty fierce in the movie. Are they supposed to resemble wolves or coyotes more?  ???

Ekirä

I kind of think hyenas, actually....based on their calls. But I think they're supposed to symbolize coyotes.

Could be that a nantang jumped over him from behind in order to confront him head on, and caught his head on a back kick, like a horse not quite clearing a fence, perhaps?

(gah, no pun intended with "head on")

definatly possible  ;D

Maybe one of the zooplantae?
nice mental image there, like a giant Venus Fly Trap but instead of those antenna like (for lack of a better word) thingies giant claws that look like butcher knives. :o

They kind of make the same yippy yappy noise.  :)

...and this is exactly why palulukan wouldn't fit.

he wouldn't have a body after that

Sawtute can not run as fast as a Na'vi so they would get caught quite quickly by Palulukan. Jake only got away because he was in a body that could travel the terrain better.

Neytiri: She will try to kill you.
Jake: Outstanding. *takes out an ikran-catcher and walks through hometree looking for women*

Unless they could find a hiding place, they'd be dead for sure. I wonder what the death rate per year is on Pandora for sawtute.

very, very, very high... no wonder, they walk louder then a brass band  ::)

at first i was thinking of palulukan who created the scar. but after seeing this i realized that humans are tiny. lol, scale matters.

and about human death rate, i'd say around 100 per year maybe? just a guess.

The pay must be awesome. Otherwise, no one would go.  :P

There must be a personal baggage allowance, stuff you can take to Pandora, and presumably home again at the end of your stay. Ditch it, bring back some unobtainium instead, at twenty mil' a Kilo that's gotta be worth more than the pay, however good it is. Maybe that is the pay.

unobtanium smuggling.  ;D
i think they must have some scanner system for the outcoming baggage using strong magnets. any metal object would simply stick to the conveyor carrying the baggage, and any unobtanium-filled bags will hover out of the conveyor to the investigation room of some kind

Human No More

A palulukan would be too big (and would have killed him and every other marine around). Far more likely a single viperwolf or very small group (why he wasn't finished off by them, presumably there were a few other marines, enough to maybe drive off 2 or 3. A stingbat doesn't seem to have visibly large enough claws (they exist, but the shape seems to indicate they would be more suited to stabbing), and a slinger would have just instantly killed him (and not left obvious claw marks). Remember humans are tiny compared to Na'vi :P

The death rate wouldn't be 100/year, an ISV arrives every ~1.2years, and has a capacity of up to 200 people and presumably takes a number back when their contracts are over, in one discussion on how many people there were on Pandora, it was thought that the very maximum would be ~400, maybe 500. I'd say deaths would be primarily the marines since they are the only ones who seem to regularly go out other than the scientists, who of course know what they are doing, and the mines, who are still mainly restricted to very nearby areas.

As for unobtainium, it was in one source (forgot which, but one of the non-canon ones) that employees are searched when leaving specifically to prevent smuggling of unobtainium.
