that is true i forgot about Tsu'tey saying that, btw when he confesses does he say most of it in English or Na'vi,?
come to think about it he must have been talking na'vi to stumble

Payä Tìrol

Jake says in Na'vi to Eytukan that the Skypeople will destroy Kelutral, but when Mo'at asks him whether or not he's certain, all of his remaining lines are in English, until pissed-off-Neytiri yells at him in Na'vi, at which point Eytukan has the two of them bound.

I'm of the opinion that Eytukan neither speaks or (fully) understand English. I'm betting he knows a few words, but certainly not to the extent his muntxate and 'ite do. It seems odd that he wouldn't, as the clan leader of a tribe that lives close to the sawtute it would be logical to be able to talk to them. I guess that's what Moat is for....... :)

Payä Tìrol

Perhaps, we'd still have to hear from Cameron to know for sure.

Yeah. Add it to a list of questions somewhere.....Too bad Eytukan died....we certainly won't get our answer from A2!

Muzer

You never know, it might be clear in the rerelease.

It's true, people say to me 'Is eight minutes really worth it?', but there's actually a TON of stuff that can happen in eight minutes. I do kinda doubt that they will be scenes with Eytukan, but as you said, you never know.

MIPP

I just think that Eytukan does not speak english. He hates the sawtute and, as english is the sawtute idiom, he refuses to speak like them. Whatever, i still think that he refuses to do that, mostly because of his pride.
However, i'm pretty sure he is able to understand a few words, not many, but as he lives with Mo'at, Neytiri, Tsu'tey and all of those eho speak english, it's impossible for him to learn absolutely nothing.

I would think all the children can speak it too.

Ekirä

All the kids that went to Grace's school, that is. ;)

Do we know the time frame of when the school was shut down to when Jake Sully comes to Pandora? How long has it been since the death of Sylwanin? It can't be too short of a time--Neytiri would have to be awfully forgiving....... :P

Lolet

I always figured like 2 years.

Payä Tìrol

It can't be too long either, Neytiri looks almost the same in that photo Grace had on that fridge.

You're right, Payä, I hadn't thought about that....

She's young enough that her face she be changing a bunch before she is grown. She's 18 in the script, I'm guessing that's the same for the movie.

Forgiving? Neytiri would have shot and killed Jake if the atokirina hadn't landed on her arrow tip.

More to the point for me is why did she really drove off the nantang.
She told Jake it was because he had a "strong heart, no fear", but she was going to say something else, then stopped herself.
I wonder why, and what it was.

I reckon she was sort of embarrassed in a certain way about the atokirina' - as if the sawtute wouldn't believe her and would just mock her (even if not openly), just think she was stupid, etc.

Consider this:

Jake: Yeah, why save me?

Neytiri: A magic seed from the sacred tree floated down and landed on my arrow tip which I interpreted as a sign to protect you from death.

Jake: ...

Either that or because her English isn't too great (though it seems to improve dramatically over the course of a few days - not unrealistic, as I know how out-of-practice you can get with things like languages, but how quickly you can fall back into practice), she just needs time to formulate the words.

Very logical from a human perspective, but why would Neytiri think like that?

Could she really know how he thinks, she has only just met him. Most all the other sawtute she's met are scientists, people who probably treat her beliefs with respect.

Tsa'räni

Considering the Na'vi are on the verge of war with the RDA, I don't think it's unreasonable that Neytiri wouldn't mention the sacred tree seed thing.  Whether or not scientists have respected their beliefs, it's obvious they have not understood them to the satisfaction of the Na'vi.  This is evidenced by both Neytiri and Mo'at telling Jake they have unsuccessfully tried to teach other humans.  Respect and actual understanding are two different things - the humans have apparently lacked the latter until Jake is successfully taught.

I think it's safe to say the atokirina played a significant role in Neytiri's decision to save Jake.  But that doesn't mean it was the only reason.  The answer Neytiri gave Jake was probably true.  Just not the whole truth.

Remember that Neytrii almost certainly saw Jake challenge the viperwolves with nothing but a sharpened stick, some fire, and a knife.  The chances that she's ever seen a human (or avatar) fight without a machine gun or gunship are slim to none.  Jake could have panicked and run only to be chased down and eaten, but he didn't.  He stood his ground when he had to and faced what was coming with courage.

Things like that would probably make a strong impression on a Na'vi hunter.

I think your probably right.

From my vantage point, after reading through this a bit, maybe, just maybe Neytiri might have seen a connection between Jake and the next "Toruk Makto". (moments after the atokirina collectively landed on Jake's arms, shoulders and head). After all... as spoken by Tsa'rani: "the Na'vi are on the verge of war with the RDA"... and the Na'vi know this. Jake basically was "the chosen one" who would help the Na'vi to defeat the RDA in battle and save Pandora from turning into a world full of strip mine tailings. But only the Tree of Souls knows this at that point in time within the movie. (or Eywa... she may have seen this revalation all along)

just a thought...
