The clone idea is very plausible and I never would have thought of that. My guess is that maybe some of the characters are resurrected because of Eywa. The info to back me up is the quote when Neytiri said "Eywa doesn't choose sides; She only protects the balance of life"- so maybe that's Eywa's way of balancing the life on Pandora after that big battle? I don't know...just some crazy theory.  ;D

The theory of the clones would downgrade Avatar 2 significantly. I think we will know the reason only when the movie will be released.

Interesting theory in any case ;D

However, if I consider also this ...

This could possibly mean that he is not just going to appear in flashbacks but almost hints that he's (Quaritch) is going to be making definitive actions in the upcoming films - so would have to be "alive"/physically there.
... I really don't know how Quaritch resurrecting would keep balance of the life on Pandora ;D

I can understand how Grace and Trudey would "come back" - as others have said - through flashbacks, or Jake communicating with them through Eywa (What if their reborn into the community?).

But for some reason I can't imagine how Quaritch is going to come back - and apparently manage to be the main villain for 4 more films - This is probably one of the most intriguing aspects of how the sequels will play out (amongst other things of course). Clones? Too cliche, Flashbacks? How will he be the main villain? - maybe the next films will focus more on his legacy he left behind? Some hidden Plan B he had for the RDA to take vengeance if their plan failed (I'm really reaching here - but you get my point  :P ).

What are your thoughts?

I found a film site which also broached the same question:

QuoteCameron kept hinting to clone technology throughout the film. Quaritch tells Jake that when he rotates back to Earth he'd make sure he'd get his "real legs", the assumption here is that they have the ability to grow/create humans/body parts. It's not that terribly shocking with them being able to grow Na'vi in a lab. Growing human clones is likely vastly cheaper than aliens.

Growing human clones is likely vastly cheaper than aliens and possibly more cost effective than retraining/hiring new recruits to go off-world.

^ Though the idea of a villain who just keeps coming back as a clone, would (depending on how it was executed) be a rather cheap way of just recycling a character/villain - and I doubt JC would do that.

Yeah, I can't imagine it too. I am very curious about it.

True!

whether it be clones or human-avatars, both are so vastly cost prohibitive that there will only be a few of them, so it would have to strictly be the rda/secops leadership and corporate types like selfridge. the clones/avatars would not be unlimited either, to each VIP, probably just two or three models at the most. at some point, you'd meet the real thing, obviously by the final sequel. Lang is really great as a no-holds-barred conscienceless bad guy, as utterly contemptible as his mini-me wainbrain, so it makes sense to represent these two as the faces of a merciless and soulless corporate machine bent on destroying the balance of life/nature, for a few scraps of paper and the shareholders bottom line. plus these two cloned/avatared bad guys now have revenge, shame, hatred, and loss of face fueling their motivations.

I read something about Quaritch and Stephen Lang.
The point was that Quaritch is killed but Cameron likes Stephen Lang's style so he will play new bad character in Av2 and probably another in Av3.
That theory sounds better than clones or avatars but doesn't explain what happened with Grace and Trudy.

Well, I like this explanation more than clones. "Kill me twice" sounds perfectly!
