I have to say, when I saw the first Avatar (lo, those many years ago now), I never imagined I'd see a day when a youtube video of a still image with Zoe Zeldaña singing in Na'vi for the music would reach 2M views (and counting). That's a lot of people deciding to listen to the Na'vi language even outside the film.

I also think it's interesting that songcords were mentioned in material for the first film, but we didn't get the payoff on that bit of worldbuilding until the new film.

Yeah, that is interesting. I would say the Songcord is one of the greatest things of Avatar TWoW :)

When I have heard the Songcord in the cinema the first time it was a really great moment, and also the moment when you are pretty much the only guy in the cinema that could understand a big part of the text. This is something I couldn't imagine 10+ years ago.
I guess, the songcord fits well in A2. I wonder if there is a longer version of that songcord, containing the events that happened in A1 (death of Eytukan or Tsu'tey, the destruction of the hometree, the battle of tree of souls) as such songcords are used for story telling.

Btw, "The Storm" by Maisy Kay, released alost 2 years ago, has 10 millions views and the full Na'vi version 440k views. There is and was an interest in Na'vi outsite Avatar apparently.

Yeah :) It's the best Na'vi song which I heard.

I have to agree with you there!

The posted lyrics can't be correct, though:

Za'u oe fru iknimaya
Nìftxavang ting mikyun, ting nari
Tompayä kato, tsawkeyä kato
Sì 'ekong te'lanä oeru teya si

I strongly suspect they are:

Za'u oe ftu Iknimaya
Nìftxavang tìng mikyun, tìng nari
Tompayä kato, tsawkeyä kato
Sì 'ekong txe'lanä oeru teya si

In any case, that's really powerful!  :palulukan:

I found out that, in the last line, te'lanä, the short plural of txe'lanä, is actually correct, as the composer meant for 'heart' to be plural.

The person who did the original translation was LearnNa'vi member, Neytiri, who is an excellent translator.

There are typos (like fru and ting), but it's not Neytiri's fault
