I recently watched and read Ready Player One. Book and movie shows different plots but overall idea is the same.
OASIS described both in book and movie stands for Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation. The OASIS allows any person to enter into virtual reality universe by using VR googles and haptic devices like just hand gloves or whole-body suit. Most of the haptic technology exist today. VR googles are already available. Missing piece is the right software and hardware strong enough to handle VR simulation.
Movie shows huge amount of different words like Minecraft or Word of Worcraft ported into VR. Book describes recreations of old video games, movies and stories told by music discs, all ported into VR.

But what about Pandora? Recreation of flora and landscapes is rather simply task. But there are few points that haptic interface cannot provide. I mean tswin and ability to control whole range of Pandora creatures. And without tswin, we can't contact with Eywa.

What do You thing about the limitations of VR? If the OASIS exists (and I'm sure it will appear within few decades), recreating Pandora (or importing data from existing fan projects) will be worth the overall effect?
Any errors in spelling, tact or fact are transmission errors.

Well, let us gamers and programmers make OASIS happen. All we need is lots of server hardware and beefy rigs to handle all the processing. And don't forget insanely fast fiber optic network connections.

I really hope I will be alive when technology gets as advanced as it was in RPO. (Which I probably will)- but yea it would be awesome to see Pandora recreated in VR! There are already almost photo-realistic worlds in VRchat so I think it's very, very plausible. - I'm still waiting for someone to upload Avatar/Na'vi avatars to VRchat so others can use them; I don't have the software to create my own so it would be nice.  :)

I must say I too was thrilled by the Oasis and the opportunities it offered. And obviously, planet Pandora would be essential. :)

Well, what are we waiting for? We have the technology. Maybe the IT personnel, programmers, and gamers here could kickstart a project like this. I wonder what JC would think of a fan-made VR Pandora...

I would help you guys make a VR Pandora world if I knew how to, but I have no idea how to use such technology.  ;D Though I'm sure JC and Lightstorm would be thrilled!  :)

I've seen Ready player one movie and it looked really good and I'm sure I'd try Oasis once. On the other hand I wouldn't want to end as people in the movie living their lives in VR. I think real life is more interesting - if you know how to live it right way.

Err, do I want to live in a humdrum life non affirming, tedious world with a dull as it gets job?
Or, would I like to life in a lush, tropical, vibrant world with all the zombies two over sized nantang could ever eat?

Tricky.

I'm just imagining the global energy consumption of people's VR rigs...

Knowing myself, I'd probably get obsessed with the OASIS, though you're 100% right, nothing can replace mother nature.  :)

I would be obsessed with it as well, and probably lose even more sleep to it. But, if we can preserve nature, we can still experience it for real in protected wilderness areas and national parks.

Exactly. - and as someone who lives next to the woods, it still wouldn't stop me from going on hikes.  :)

Nature is very common in Ohio.- There aren't many cities here.  :)

Sounds really nice!

Generally, Europe's population density is much higher than in the US :(
