Most (or all) of us after the first session have experienced the longing for film or some kind of depression.
Later they come to mind strange things. Some are beginning to pay more attention to nature, others dress up as characters, others start learning useless language, some people want to kill because the earth is too gray and sad.

I would like to somehow sort out these relationships.
Create a definition of the disease (or addiction)
find all the possible ways of infection,
gather a list of symptoms
and finally put the decision (which you probably already all know) whether it is curable?

Please, describe how Avatar influenced you, what has changed in your life after Avatar, which changes occurred after the first session. Did further sessions were needed to deepen this state and how you can evaluate everything from the perspective of several years? So lets start.

Definition: Avatar is a mental illness.

Method of infection:

  • It is a disease transmitted audiovisual. It is not known whether the dimensions of the image and the image and sound quality affect the likelihood of infection.
Until now also have not been observed in cases of contamination in other ways.
  • Not every contact must end with visible symptoms. However, there are documented cases of contracting a latent version that reveals itself over time or contact with other patients.

Symptoms:

  • The disease significantly reduces the amount of free time which patients have.
  • Causes problems with concentration and may result in temporary loss of contact with reality.
  • This leads to deepen their knowledge about the source of the disease.
  • Visible are the symptoms of addiction. Most patients also want to repeatedly watch the movie.
  • Increases the sensitivity of the situation of other people and animals.
  • This leads to pay increased attention to the environment and prevent its degradation.
  • Can cause depression and anxiety disorders. Usually diagnosed depression is most of the patients described as positive feeling.
  • In people with creative skills often causes concentration works on the theme of the film and the creation of contaminated work. Sometimes it also contributes to the discovery and / or development of talent.
  • Most patients have the desire contact with other patients and their works, and begins to accumulate objects evocative of those seen in the film.
  • Some patients are changing their patterns of beauty.
  • A small percentage of patients modify their appearance, striving to be conformed to the changed ideals.

Treatment:

  • Treatment consists of conscious isolation of the sick person from the source of the disease, other patients and all contaminated materials.
After undertaken intensive treatment of the disease can go back and go latent stage, but in the group there were no cases so far cure.

Mortality:

  • The mortality rate is not high, but it's only been six years since the detection of the first cases.

Why would there be a mortality rate? Wouldn't they be more peaceful and in tune to Mother Earth? So much so they would way right and have vibrant chakras and energy?

At lest one person death because of Avatar:

Many other want to kill themselves.
Last one, this text should looks like medical analysis, so this point should appear.

That's sad but there could have been other factors of why he died. Poor man probably couldn't take all of the vibrant otherworldly scenery and color especially in 3D. His eyes were probably strained so much his head hurt really bad. I've had problems like that after watching a 3D movie but never that bad. What if this man also had Epilepsy or his senses were on overload? Idk but I don't think Avatar itself would do anything like that unless give you a heart attack xD

"Disease called Avatar" ... totally agree!

I've been infected for more than 6 years. Symptoms hardly reduce... Difficulties with curing it surrounded by other infected folks: actually the whole family suffers from this mental illness. A special hospital (or camp) or something is definitely needed for avatarized people to make it easier for them to accept their being "different"...
The sad results of this disease in our family can be seen in this authentic medical documentary video:

I am infected too  ;D :)

Good video  :)

I am infected too. Really all we can do now is wait patiently for Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2017 and Avatar 2 in 2018. Think like a proton and stay positive. Stay determined!

Well, I've got ill at the end of 2010 too. But sadly during the time I get better more and more. But I still visiting this forum, so I never get completely healthy.
Progress: Worsening awaited with sequels.

Sometimes it is really hard to stay ill...  ???

What is this depressing read? I can understand if someone flies completely over the edge and does a whole lifestyle change but rewatching it and learning about it while discussing it? That is just being a fan! Idk if it is still residual hype from just watching it about a week ago, but this post almost seems like a hate statement in general. I've rewatched this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311289/ several times in the past, but only because I liked the movie's story, and pretty much did everything normally (not change my diet to onions or w/e it was they ate in the desert to prevent sand lizards from biting lol).

To be honest just reading this and seeing people go over the edge on the fiction is a bit deterring but I was interested in the constructed language, mainly maybe because I have studied hard-to-learn languages for English speakers and because I liked the movie. Barely anyone speaks Latin but it isn't a mental disorder to try and learn it  :(.

That's my opinion, but enough about that, this post puts me down a little.

I will not reflect upon my Avatar experience in the core context of the actions of a "Disease" or "Infection"

In the reality of many Reality's , How we "see" what we see,  Effects the quality of our reality.

my seven year fanship of Avatar is not a disease. i am an avid Avatarian! my edit and many others i have rescued from the wreckage of AF, attest to my undying love of all things Avatar!  :)

Sadly (or luckily, however you want to call it  ;) ), I've been infected too in early 2010.. I've worked on possible ways to cure this disease in my private lab for days and weeks without sleep, but I haven't found any yet.
Because trying to get rid of the disease can lead to severe depression or other dangerous symptoms, I advise strongly against trying to get rid of it by going cold turkey.

What I would presribe is at least 20 minutes of Avatar-related content per day, be it
-watching the movie,
-reading fanfiction or
-looking at fanart.

Have a nice evening y'all  ;D

That doesn't sound like a disease to me,
The Movies are if anything a bit underrated in-spite of being basically big blockbuster spectacles.

Toliman

yeah, not a disease, however... ;D
