I don't think we would be annoyed by having tails if nature supposed us to have. We'd be used to it and not thinking about it. I mean you don't think about moving your arm, you just do it.

indeed, it is in essence something that is quite subconscious, the question is how sensitive is it it to pain

I think just as sensitive, any other body part, most likely the arm I think, but I'm no expert....

If I can remember, I wanted a tail since I played the first Ratchet and Clank game as the Lombax Ratchet. And that is about 7 or 8 years ago if I remember correctly.

First: I guess a tail would be heavy. Would be uncomfortable having a thing movinh in my back. And finally, people would trample it (not sure if i wrote it well)
My cats like their tails, sometimes they play with it. And they can bend it by 90 degrees, looks like a periscope from a submarine ^^

LOL, that made me imagine a tail sticking up from behind an item of furniture and looking around as if scanning for signs of danger.  :D

And having a tail? heck yes!

However today I squeezed into the subway Tokyo style and had I a tail it would have been pinched by the door.

Ah, gotta love Japan. I saw a scene like that when I was there for 10 days - fortunately it wasn't the tube I was getting on :P

(No, that "gotta love Japan" isn't sarcastic - I love how efficient everything is, how they'll get the maximum use out of something, etc.)

Along with having a tail, I think having ears with a pinna refex would be awesome as well.

Another cat feature, as it happens!

That could be interesting, though it would probably make surround sound less effective as it'd be hard to listen behind you if your ears are pointing forwards.

Nyx

You could do it if you can afford to put speakers all around...

Muzer

No, but I mean if you did that, the loudest noises usually come from the front to benefit idiots who have set it to surround but don't have surround-sound systems (grr...), so your ears would never really point backwards, so you would never hear things from behind you. As it is, our ears, though not very good at picking out very quiet noises, are pretty good at hearing from all directions reasonably clearly.

I think I'd happily pay the price of surround sound to have ear muscles that aren't attrophied to the point of uselessness.
:D

But a tail is more important!

I have that tail. It's pretty good. The inertial mass results in a semi-realistic swinging motion as you walk around. I also have some khaki shorts with a hole in the back.

Going to the loo when you have to deal with a tail that pokes through a hole in your clothes is no longer a quick task. I see why the Na'vi wear loincloths.

Many sitting positions would be really uncomfortable with a tail.
Please tell me if you see mistakes in a Na'vi post of mine. It's the only way I'll learn. :P
