Having a tail

I really want a tail... if it actually becomes practical to get one added during my life, I'll be one of the first to sign up, it's a part of a wider interest for me in surpassing human physical form, I just didn't realise what my goal there was until Avatar

Technically, it would be simple to rearrange a human's genome to make their embryonic cells differentiate into a permanent tail.

Would I want one? Not really...

We don't live in an environment that makes a tail useful. The Na'vi have it because it alters their center of gravity and allows for better balance control when climbing.

Basically, it would only serve to be something that might get caught in a door if you weren't careful.

That is actually a very interesting question.

I suppose it would depend on whether or not the current code would code for muscles or not. There *are* vertebrae, it's just that they're gone by the time development is completed, along with the rest of it.

If they would just be vertebrae, then it would hang. If there were muscles, then there would also have to be nerves controlling the muscles by default, and then it would become useful.

I guess the only way to answer it would be to find out somehow if the code contains something that would be translated into bones and muscles to go with the tail.
